Well, the planets lined up today... Rode my wife's 250 Rebel... changed the oil... Rode her V-Star... changed the oil... (Yeah, she was working so I played valet Jiffy Lube).

Finally got to my bike... ... took it for a 10 mile ride to warm up the storage oil and make sure the oil coolers opened up. Got back home and did the usual five minutes on sidestand, then moved to center stand and proceed to get about the job (thank you Steve for that nice new K&N oil filter... I like it.) as I'm going about the business this happened... my wife was home by then so she was kind enough to take this picture... can anyone guess what I'm doing and why?

You added new oil without reinstalling the plug/filter?

There's more than 4qts in that pan. Trying to dip some out to prevent making a mess on the driveway.

Ding Ding... We have a winner

Forgot the drain plug, so poured $20 of synthetic oil through the sump, and mixed it with the dirty oil already in the pan...

So, now the pan is so full of oil I can't budge it without it spilling over the edge. So, I go get a dixi cup out of the bathroom and ladel off enough oil so that I can slowly pick the pan up and pour it back into the container to throw all the oil out...



Wife tells me I'm going to need another container... DUH!... like I can't tell 8 quarts of oil isn't going to fit into a gallon container...

At this point she'd had enough laughs and walks away... So, I'm pouring the oil into the jug, and what do I do?... I'm concentrating so hard on trying not to spill the oil as I pour it, I'm not paying attention to how full the jug is, and I over-pour by about half a funnel... oil runs down the side of the jug and all over the concrete... I can not believe I did that... So, I go get another jug that already had some dirty oil in it... and I start pouring again... AND I over-pour that one too (guess there was more in there than I thought)... oil starts running down the side of the jug and onto a fresh spot on the concrete... So, now I've got TWO huge puddles of oil by my walkway. Took me about 20 minutes to clean the mess up using brake cleaner to dissolve the oil and soak it up...

I go in the house tell my wife what I did... she start laughing again and says... I'm taking my bikes to Jiffy Lube from now on...

Back in the bad old days when I was a helicopter mechanic and smoked cigarettes, I came to work without my lighter...... no problem, there is a truck battery over there on charge, I'l just go over there and short it with a small stainless wire and............ KABOOOOOOOOM~!!!!!!

Well, I got that going for me... I didn't light the oil on fire or blow anything up...

You have to be able to laugh at yourself...

Life lesson #9 from iowabeakster: DO NOT pour gasoline on the the oil slick and attempt to burn it off.

My buddy and I tried to do that (I was 11-12 years old)...inside an attached garage! We came very close to burning down my friends house. It was his idea...and he was a couple years older!

Thinking about it now... I still get choked with fear.

Ves, I suggest you don’t do anything major to your bike like input shaft replacement in this month. Disaster always strike twice

Phang... luckily I did my ABS bleed BEFORE I put the bike away... Whew... Could have messed that up good...

I blame it all on spring fever... just not thinking straight...

And I thought I was the only one with oil stains on my garage floor.

I haven't laughed so hard since I heard Ron White for the first time, only because I knew exactly what was going to happen (sort of, I was just expecting a spill story, not a 'I need more of that really expensive oil' story.

Ves, How can you tell for sure that the coolers have opened up? (I have no temp. sensor on my bike) Is it just a feeling that it is freaking hot?

I ride 8 or 10 miles, one gear lower than usual (keep the revs up, build more heat), then I feel the coolers when I get off (just to make sure). Yup, you stick you finger in there an feel if they are hot... don't hold you finger on there too long... just tap it... they get hot
