My R1150R is now a memory, sold back to the selling dealer. I found that in the last year I had only put 1500 miles on the bike and just felt it was time to let go of it. It was my first bike and I put a lot of thought into what to buy and don't regret my decision. I never had any real problem with it and it was a perfectly reliable commuter the first year of its life, 13k.

Over the six years I had it, I came to turn to this board on a daily basis to learn about the bike and tackle some of the basic chores asssociated with owning one. To newcomers I can say that this is THE place to learn and share about this wonderful ride. Thanks to all who have made the journey worthwhile.

I am sorry to hear of the sale of your bike and your departure from the collective here.

I know how you feel though! It's hard to justify having a bike that doesn't get used as much as it should. I have been dealing with it for 4 years...still haven't sold it yet. I guess I am still an optimist.

Mine left on May '07 and the way I see it is "it's gone but not forgotten". Regardig the site I have made friends and got to know a fair share of the members and that makes me feel like I' in my second home.

I will stick around until there isn't much to contribute as I have always believed that part of the enjoyment derived from riding comes from learning and working on your ride, irregardless of brand.

I wish you the best and stop by whenever you feel there is something new and exciting in your life.

It must be hard to let a bike go that's such a classic.

You may even miss it so much and want to buy it back..

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. One day when I have the time to ride, I'll get nother bike. But, I can say in all honesty, the next one won't be a BMW. Situations like towerworker is dealing with have taught me that maybe a chain I can see and work on have some big advantages over a failure-prone final drive.

I loved the bike, but I'm the first to admit, I have NO frame of reference; I've never thrown a leg over any other bike. The alleged reliability of shaft-drive bikes in general, and BMW in particular, are why I bought in. Concern over this area of the bike was just one more factor pushing me to sell it.
