R1200R LOW

Greetings from the Great White North. Question. A new R1200R will be parked in my "bike hole" when the snow melts. I'm wondering about getting the factory lowered version? Are there any disadvantages to this? I'm 5'6" with a gravel driveway on a slope. I've been riding for many years, so the standard would present no real problems.....just on the gravel....I'd really hate to scratch the thing...being new, and all. Thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm 5 foot 6 and got the tall seat because I wanted a little more legroom. At a stop I can't flatfoot but that doesn't bother me after having owned skyscraper seat height dirt bikes. I've enjoyed some light offroading and slid around a little, but with the low center of gravity it was still fairly easy to control. If you're running on loose surfaces regularly, I'd recommend some crash bars for the heads. I have the plastic bmw protectors and from reading this forum they don't protect very well unless you tip over at a standstill. Enjoy your ride and remember, Spring is just around the corner, Yee Ha! :D

I'm leaning towards going with the standard machine. I can always get a low seat for it. I'll just be a little careful on the gravel. Where do you guys shop for accessories? BMW? Or, aftermarket?

Hmmm... I think we discussed this on ADV-Rider (and I pointed you here..)

Take some time to look back in the forum postings - LOTS and LOTS of info here on accessorizing (Farkling TM) your R1200R - and when you get it and want the articles, ping me and I'll email them to you.

Oh - if you want a low seat on it - order it with the low seat. It's free if you order it that way. It's around $400 if you order it later.
