Flyscreen Painting

For those who have painted the inside of their screens, what type of prep did you do before firing up the rattle can? I kind of don't want to do any sanding if it's not necessary.

I did not do any prep, other than a though cleaning.
I did not paint the edges at first, taped them off, but did not like the light refracting though the edges and redid it to paint the edge. I like it better.

I'm no expert at painting but am very interested in what you are doing. I want to raise a couple of questions:
Should the screen not be a bit "rough" for the paint to adhere to it?
To the best of my knowledge a plastic primer is recommended before you apply the colour?
Are you using a special type of paint?

Johan - I can assure you I am no expert either but from my experience the answers to your questions are:

As I stated above, I didn't. Its been painted for over two years and shows no sign of peeling off.
To the best of my knowledge a plastic primer is recommended before you apply the colour?
Are you using a special type of paint?
No and no. I used a simple can of flat black acrylic paint from the hardware store.
