TB/Carb sync

Post by hawkdad »

this isn't necessarily R related... but kind of...
I need to do some 6K service and am 'tooling' up for it this week.

I've read whaycoc's tool list and am thinking of getting the Twin Max carb sync... thing.. sorry can't remember.... for doing the TB's but was wondering if it can also be used for other bikes....

I'm about to get my hands on an old '75 Honda CB750F Supersport (inline 4) and will make it a project bike for the winter. It's been sitting for about 12 years and I'm sure the fuel system is nothing but gum right now...

My question is.. will the twin max work for both my Oilhead and the inline 4?

Or, would there be a better tool for both bikes... or (forbid) I have to buy two for the different bikes...

Whaycoc... thanks for the tool list btw.. =D>

To the best of my knowledge the Twin Max can only be used on a two cylinder bike. You will need a 4 gauge device such as carb sticks or something similar.

Wayne is correct - Twin Max is just like it's name suggests and can only be used on 2 cylinder engines. If you get a Twin Max, it may be just the excuse you're looking for to also get that Moto Guzzi or Ducati to use it on . . .

Pick a cylinder to be your primary (#1) and then balance the others to the primary one in succession. Just don't mess up and alter your primary one.

True. you CAN do it this way.

Another ordering system (and this depends on exactly how the throttle bar is set up on the row of carbs), is to balance 1 - 2, then 3 - 4, then 2 - 3 or 1 - 4. On some bikes (as I understand it), this is how the throttle bar works - I think it depends on where the cable is routed - to the middle, or to one end.

Rguy is absolutely correct all inline muti cylinders have a carburator that is used as the "standard" to which the others will be matched to. So by leaving one line of the TwinMax on the "standard" and moving the other hose to the rest of the carbs the balance can be performed.

The only bad thing is that you have to stop the engine and move the hose around from carb to carb......while the engine is hot....

Do remember to use a couple of fans to either side of the engine to keep things relatively cool and try to get the balance done inside 5 minutes running.
