A pleasant dilemma, seeking opinions...

I’m leaving next week for a 10-12 day ride to British Columbia/Alberta from SoCal, the dilemma is that I now have two bikes capable of that trip and I can’t decide which one! I have an ’05 R1200ST with 36k miles on it, and just bought an ’09 F650GS (twin cyl). Either of these would work just fine, the ergo’s are great on both and they both have hard bags.

Riding the brand new GS would be great, but… I have to wonder about the wisdom of taking a barely broken-in bike on a trip like this. On the other hand, the ST has 36k on it, and I’ll prob’ly sell it when I get back, so it would have over 40k on it and therefore perhaps harder to find a buyer?

So, opinions anyone?

If it were me, it would be the R1200st, 36k/40k (does it really make a difference) and I agree "a barley broken in bike"????
(I wish I had your problem!!!!) Have fun, Den

Thanks for the replies... I'm leaning toward the ST, better weather protection and severe crosswinds are hardly noticeable on it. It's really the logical choice, but... I'm not always logical!

The ST is going to do a lot better, if you have to make up some miles getting home. I would also assume better cargo capacity.

I think that Boxer did long ride on a F650GS(single cylinder) and preferred the bigger R1150R for long rides.
