I'm looking for the answer to an old question, I know the screaching breaks must have been covered before but I can't seem to find an answer, is there any way to stop the breaks from sounding like a bus when coming to a stop, I think there were posts before with answers but didn't pay attention at the time, I appreciate any help if you have it.

I was told by a brake mechanic that the squealing comes from NOT cleaning the rotor and brake calipers well BEFORE installing new pads. Apparently, disk and brake dust, especially sintered brake dust, gets impregnated in the new pads and causes the squealing. Also, the lack of anti-squeal on the back of the pad may be the cause.

However, I'm not an expert.

I hope you didn't break your brakes.

We're missing a lot of data:
-- What kind of cleaning products do you use at bike wash time?
-- How many miles on the brakes?
-- Is it the front or rear?
-- Is the squealing brake the one you hardly ever use, like the front?

about 6000 miles, its the front breaks, and I use a grease cutting dish soap (any advice on that would be good as well) and I use both breaks when I stop and try not to favor eather end of the bike in breaking, I was told by the BMW shop the noise is normal.

My front brakes did the same thing many miles ago. I thoroughly cleaned the calipers and pad backing. I then applied a thin coating of disc pad anti-squeal to the back of the pads. My "brakes" were quiet for quite some time after that. The brake squeal did come back for a time but then finally got quiet and stayed that way.

Yea. Drove me nutty for quite a while. Started about the 2nd year of ownership. It did not always happen, but when it did I really disliked it. Went away on it's own after several years. Patience may be the best solution.
