BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I just bought a 2003 R1150R that does not have a windshield on it. I am sure it has the stock brackets. Is there any other windshields from another model that might be adapted to this bike? I would prefer something on the tall side, but anything would be better than nothing.

There are 4 different Windshields that BMW makes for the R. flyscreen, sport screen, touring screen and the 380 mm High screen.

I use the fly and sport screen. Used to have a touring one, but it created some buffeting, and is no longer in my posession.

I replaced my touring screen with the sport. Touring screen available if interested?

I like the BMW touring screen.

I took my touring screen off last weekend, I just wanted to be reminded what a naked bike feels like. After I get the bike cleaned up, the screen is going back on. I am much more comfortable with the screen then without it. I know that there is a lot of buffeting with this screen, so I tried a Laminar Lip on it a few years ago, it will take care of about 75% of the buffeting, and is in fact quieter with the screen now, then without, also my helmet stays where it is supposed to, and not try to lift up off my head. I wouldn't mind trying the sport screen someday, perhaps I will get a line on a used one so I can see how it works compared to the touring/laminar lip setup. In the mean time, I will be riding behind the touring screen and I won't go back to naked again.

Owldaddy, I'm thinking about getting a Laminar Lip for my touring screen too. I just don't know if it would help any with the buffeting of my helmet. When you sit on your bike, how many inches do you look over the screen? (I'm trying to come up with a comparison to my helmit position.) Right now every bug in the sky enters through my open face shield even when it is just cracked open for a little venting. Thanks

I bought the Lip for the buffeting problem originally. Someone on this board I believe had mentioned that they had installed the Lip and had good results with it, so I thought I would give it a try also. I have to say it does a good job of moving the air stream to the top of the helmet. instead of at the bottom. I was real unhappy with the shield when I first bought it due to the noise and buffeting. I am 5'7" and I do look over the top of the screen, good thing too, I'm sure I would go cross eyed if I had to look through that wavy piece of plastic. After my ride last weekend I know without a doubt that the ride is much quieter and more comfortable with the screen and lip, then without. I bought new well nuts for it at Home Depot this weekend, and intend to install the screen after I clean the bike. Which brings me to the only drawback to the screen, you do have to take it off once or twice a year to get the bugs and crud off the instrument panel and top of the headlight. That only takes a minute or two to remove, so it isn't really a big deal.
