How do you stop or cancel the brake and signal light flash feature? I have been told it's illegal in PA if the yellow front and back signal lights flash. The other thing I could do is change them to clear lens and red bulbs.

If the unit is wired like mine then all you need to do is pull the wires (plug) from the top of the unit and you will just be left with the basic function.

If you would like to save a few bucks, you can buy a can of red paint used for stained glass. I sprayed the inside of the yellow lens on my R when I installed a signal minder, just so I could be legal. The paint is translucent, the yellow lens will look red after that. It looks good and is cheaper then buying new bulbs and lenses.

I don't think that it's illegal in PA for your brake lights to flash but you may not have yellow running lights at the rear (front is OK). I've ignored this in the past with my SignalMinder and have not been stopped but PA is now in the midst of a vigorous traffic enforcement program. Of course, they are not concentrating on the reducing dangerous practices that have proliferated here in PA, such as running stop signs or stopping the "5-second rule" at red lights (where drivers who are within 5 seconds of the intersection have the apparent right to run the red light) or even the use of cell phones while driving. Instead, they appear to have homed in on seat belt usage and any motorcycling infraction - one recent case I'm aware of was a citation for speeding 49 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Sorry for the rant, now back to some information. If you want to get clear lenses, here is a source for the red bulbs you'll need to make it legal:

Ouch. If it was me riding in such an enforcement war zone, then I'd swap the OE signal module back in for peace of mind, until the uber-scrutiny mellows. Install a cheap LED aux brake light (non-flashing), plus either Motolights or Kisan PathBlazer headlight flasher module (confirmed legal in all 50 states) to address conspicuity concerns.

Ruddy, I am not at home right now, when I get back there later this weekend I will look in the garage for the can of paint I used, so that I can be sure that I have the right brand name for you. As I recall I Googled "stained glass paint" I believe the can cost about $6 plus shipping. I should mention that I took the lens off the bike, and sprayed 2 coats on the inside of the lens. When the lights are off, the lens has a nice dark red tone to it, not even a hint of yellow, when the lights are on, they look like stock red lenses. Light passes through them easily. I did this 3 years ago, so far they have held up well, no flaking or change in color. I think they look better then the clear lenses myself, as they match the brake light lens in color.

Well I just got home from Carmel, racing at Laguna Seca is being held this weekend, and the CHP are out in force. No problem finding bikers to help Arnold meet California's budget shortfall. I have never seen so many motor CHP officers in one place at one time. All of them were busy passing out tickets. Back to the subject of this thread, I found the paint out in the garage I used on my lens. I am pleased with the results and would do it again, should I break a lens in the future.

I just painted the inside of the amber tail lenses using red Krylon stained glass paint. Looks and works excellent!!!

The best part is it was only 8 bucks for paint vs 50+ bucks for new lenses and bulbs.

In Canada it is also illegal to have amber running lights on the rear. I have the Kisan Signal Minder and the main purpose for its' purchase was the running light feature. Luckily, I have clear lenses, so I just bought some red 1156 bulbs from NAPA auto parts. The pins on the OEM bulbs are offset where as the 1156 bulbs pins are not. I simply filed off one of the pins on the 1156 bulb and it seated into the socket just fine. Now I have three reds on the back creating a "triangle" and making the bike much more visible at night.
