Waterproof Side Case Alternative

Has anyone tried these? Looking at the 11 photos that accompany the ad, how do you suppose it secures the bottom half of the bag to keep from flopping when on rough road. And do you think it would be universal - or at least fit a DR650 as well as an R1150R? Anyone?

The concern that I would have with any soft bags on the R, is clearance around the muffler. It looks like they strap on the rear footpeg bracket.
Look on advrider.com , and ibmwr.org you can find the hard cases for around $400(double the softbags, but worth it in the long run.

I have hard cases. I don't like them. Plus they just add weight. I'd sell them in a heartbeat if I had an alternative and this looked like a good one. They are advertised as low profile, i.e. they don't touch most mufflers. Besides, my can is gone on the BMW. woo hoo! The can on the DR has a heat shield covering it, and the rack sticks out enough that maybe the bag would still even clear the heat shield. It looks like there is some sort of shield on the back of the bag as well. I've just not seen enough bikes to know about this, or know enough about how various things attach to know if the system for attaching it is sort of universal or not.

I was up to Aerostich a while back and should have taken a closer look at those bags, I'm not positive but I think they require a "rear rack".( although I am sure something could be rigged to work). They look like great luggage, and Ortlieb is a good brand. I also prefer the soft luggage, my only requirement is that it be waterproof. I went to purchase their panners, I think they will work good on the KLR, and fit the BMW pretty good also, my only caution would be for persons with a leg inseam of over 30". Den

bought these bags last week... got them today... all the fasteners are correct and they fit well (high enough to clear the stock can) and securely (so far). My onliest issue is that the bags are long and either cover the turn signals or back up significantly into my rear end. I'm going on a short trip this weekend and will post my thoughts about performance in when I get back.

and I'm happy soooo far. I made a piece out of 1/4 " plastic stock to keep the left side bag off the exhause can and take it off when I get home from travel...

I've got a set of RKA's - I love em and think they really look great also. I was a little concerned about them clearing the tail pipe before I bought them - I actually use one long bungy cord and connect the bungy through the zippers on each side - does two things - keeps the zippers from opening up at high speed and gives the bags an inch or two lift so I don't worry about the clearance at all. I just got back from a 2800 mile trip - no problems at all with them. I'd send a pic, but can't figure out how to post a picture on this site
