New Farkle - RKA Seatbag

Looking for more easily accessible space - the only answer I could come up with was a seat bag. It seemed to me most were just too darn big and tall - it would be a PITA for me to get my leg over an 18" high seat-bag. So.. I looked for a smaller one to carry a few essentials in.

Found it - RKA makes a small bag:

It's the 8 liter "Starr-I" bag..

Nice, fastens securely, comes off easily (leaving the base behind), and big enough for the few things I wanted to put in it. Will report on full functionality after a few more days with it, but so far - seems to do the job I wanted. $100 - the black with silver matches my tankbag, and the black/white-stripes bike quite well. Looks like it belongs there.

Looks like a really nice addition to your 12R, Richard and Kathy sell really high quality gear. And for those in a pinch, they can deliver stuff pretty quickly when they have room in the production line for expedited orders. Ordered a color matched tankbag for my Gray/Mandarin 1100S just shortly before I flew to Louisville to pick up the bike in April. Richard promised, Kathy delivered in plenty of time. I've used a lot of different brands of soft luggage on bikes over the last 40 years or so, and I've never seen anyone beat the quality of their products...

Ciao! Bill J

Don, I think it was you that mentioned an RKA tankbag to me, in response to a question I had posted about GPS/tankbag interference. When I visited the RKA website, to check out the tankbag, I stumbled on the same seatbag you bought and am delighted with it. As your pictures show, it fits like it was custom made for the R.

A feature of the RKA seatbag that might be useful to others is the fact that you can buy additional bases (the strap and pad that the bag mounts on) separately, so that you can conveniently move one seatbag from bike-to-bike.

My experience with RKA's customer service was superb!

Don,
Do you have a pic of the Kwik cover on the bike?

Not at the moment, but one could be obtained, prolly tonight if I remember to.

The Kwikover works great on the bike. Hides the GPS and tankbag, keeps the sun from burning them up when the bike is parked during the day and keeps bird poop off it. The first one lasted me a bit over a year of almost constant use.. so I bought a new one. My first one got a bit stretched out - nothing some work with some elastic wouldn't fix, but I was lazy so I just got a new one.

Hard to say with the tailbag installed, but would the Kwikover be suitable for making a piece of clothing or other gear vanish underneath it while parking the bike to take a hike? I am thinking of maybe a jacket or my overpants. Thanks!

Hey Don,
how long does it take to put that kwik cover back in place? It secures under the seat right?

Thanks

I'll answer both in one posting..

I already replied to a PM from Harald - and yes - the Kwikover does hide things quite nicely on the seat...

Leonardo - takes about 10-15 seconds. Really.. It's always on the bike, and I use it all the time. It's good for about a year or so before the elastic starts giving out - that's using it a LOT. With less use it will last longer I'd guess.

Best,
