Got a question...

Is the gearshift lever on our bike adjustable; up and down? It looks like it is but I don't see anything about it my Clymer manual and I don't want to mess anything up. I have a new pair of boots and it would be nice to adjust it up a bit.

That's funny. Today was my first ride with new boots and I was planning to do the adjustment after I had ridden a ways but by the time I got home 150 miles later, it did not seem so necessary!

Compared to the typical shifting linkage on the average bike, the stock BMW stuff is very durable and well designed. You just need to know the simple secrets to it's disassembly or adjustment.

After a gazillion shifts in over 6o K miles on my bike the linkage is still pretty tight.

I needed to replace those little rubber bushings on my gearshift linkage, but was stumped about how to remove the retainer clips. Then I remembered a post by CycleRob. A search of the forum "gearshift CycleRob" brought this right up. QED and about 15 min later I was done! Thanks r1150r.net and thanks CycleRob! Life is good.

Those little clips are tricky to undo unless you know how it is done. I adjusted my lever when I got new Altberg boots a few years ago and it was well worth while.

I need to remove the peg extenders that were put on my bike by the prior owner. Getting the shifter bolt out is TOUGH! Is that because of the lock-tite? Do I really need to heat with a heating gun? It is hard to get enough torque with the hex-wrench given the position of that bolt.
