Rear Organic Brake Pads: I have a pre 10/2002 R1150R with Integral Brakes. The rear pads are organic (black metal backing) and are about shot. I have been looking around at prices for replacements. I found that Carbone Lorraine sells a replacement for less than $30.00, but it appears to be a sintered metal pad. Stock organics are even more expensive than this. Information has been overwhelming about how BMW changed the caliper and went to sintered metal pad (copper metal backing) after 10/2002. But from what I'm seeing the sintered metal are exactly the same shape as the organic. Also the sintered metal will supposedly overheat the pre 10/2002 caliper. Anyone have any insight or experience with this?

I'm on my second replacement set. I use EBC 365' organiics on my `03. I think your information is correct, at least with the early models. I get in excess of 10,000 miles from the EBCs. I don't see any advantage in the sintered metel for street use, and they probably will be harder on the rotors. I paid under $30 USD a couple months ago online, delivered. If you want to see expensive, check what BMW gets for a set of pads.

Thanks for the info on the EBC's. Yeah, the lowest BMW organic that I have found is about $51. If your bike was built after 10/02 it should have a different rear caliper than mine, and takes the sintered metal pad. If you get around to it, can you post a picture of the caliper? Just curious on what the difference is between the two.

Thanks again Airman. I found them at Motorcycleproshop.com at $25.00! Bikebandit.com wants them for $26.95. The 2008 EBC organic pad # for our bike is now FA363.

Bmw pads $AU150.00,.....Pads from an accessories outlet $AU50.00. No question to me. I put Bendix Organics on the rear from advice it is softer on the disc. NIL complaints at present, and actually feels better. None of that ABS poo happening so early in the braking pressure. No squealing either. I am going to go Organic on the front soon too.
Am I wrong, anyone got an ill view on this. 03 Rockster ABS.

Only a month late, but here's a picture of the rear caliper on my `03. You'll notice the front bolt is a hex instead of the original Torx. I found it missing when I went to change the pads and had to run to dealer for a new one. Used some blue locktight this time. I just looked and my build date is 1002, so I suspect the bikes built after this date were the dual spark bikes titled as `04's. My dealer actually had a bike show up in Dec. of `02 they had ordered in August. It was titled as an `02. My bike was delivered in Jan. of `03 titled as an `03, bikes delivered a couple of months later were dual sparks titled as `04's.
What kind of a rotor would you buy if you wanterd to run the sintered pads ?

and I found a bolt missing on my left front, but found a replacement at a local hdwre store.

I have the same rear caliper on my bike. It is an early release 2002, which was purchased by the first owner in June 2001. I just now realized that I don't have the little retaining clip for the float pin. I bet it has been missing since the rear pad was replaced by the dealer in 2004!

I think the bolt was pretty cheap by BMW standards. A couple bucks.
