Back Rest

Take a look at this site and tell me what you think of the chances of making this work on the R1200R.

I sent an email to the company who produces the product.
Here is their responce:

Question

Do you think the "R1200GS Stealth Backrest" would work on a BWM R1200R?

Answer: "Not a chance in hell"

Question: Also, do you have any products for a BMW R1200R?

Answer: "Some crossover products... exhausts, lighting kits, horns, shift lever etc, Pit Bull stands, Baxley chock, a few other items... Look over our K1200S products.. http://piratesk12site.net/ProductS.htm You might see something you like.."

Personally, I think with a little work, the backrest could work, as long as you have the optional carrier.

We had a Pirates Lair backrest on our last bike (DL1000K6). My wife did not like it very much, wrong angle and not adustable, the curve was wrong and the backrest base is some kind of plastic so it's not something you can bend to change and lastly the position was way wrong it pushed her way too far forward which I did manage to fix with some creative work with a grinder and cutoff wheel. We are using the BMW topbox currently but I'm looking for an alternative since it is pretty heavy even empty. The parts person at Mortons did some checking for me and thinks the Sargent or Bakup would work. Only problem is they are quite expensive for just a backrest. I'm thinking I might be able to make a Kawasaki Concours unit (old Concours) work if I can come up with some kind of base.

I had the Pirates Stealth Back Rest on my K1200RS and my wife liked it just fine. I don't know that she leaned back into it but it gave her a feeling of added security.
