BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

Well I made the dreaded mistake of taking the R1200R for a test drive today and it appears my wallet is gonna be a bit lighter for a while.
I currently have an '07 F650GS which is a fine enough bike but lacking that extra oomph I've been yearning for lately.So while I was at the dealer today to get some parts for my X-Challenge I start eye balling the dealer demo '07 R1200R on the showroom floor.Of course shortly into the conversation with the nice sales folks I'm offered a test ride and hey why not it can't hurt anything right?

Well yeah I suppose if you don't have a pulse and an appreciation for a smooth as butter engine then I guess you're safe.Needless to say I was neither as my pulse quickened and my appreciation oozed from under my helmet like a school boy smitten by the girl with the big boobs.

The dollars and sense part of the equation was easy to come to grips with as I was offered a good trade-in on the F650GS and BMW has attractive finance terms and being it had me at start up how was I to be expected to not sign on the dotted line?
Well I tell you I was strong and proud of myself as I was able to walk away without signing and held out for all of 4 hours or so until I called back and sold my soul and said put my name on the nice leftover '07 R1200R we discussed earlier to the nice sales folks.

So I guess next week can't get here soon enough as I'm left yearning to replicate the feeling the mighty R1200R gave me in that tease of a test ride.

Welcome aboard. You are going to love your new bike . I love mine more than any bike I have ever owned. You are lucky also, we have people who attend this list who are waiting for their bike to come from the Father Land.
Let's talk some more about this "girl with the big boobs."

I can't wait for the season tobegin for me here - I have a cold and don't like to ride then as I find sneezing in my helmet is a risk activity.

Good news is that I'll have a good hour plus break in ride from the dealer to home to get good and familarized with the new steed.

I ditto all the comments. I was out practicing low speed u-turns and then stops to get used to the ABS. What a great bike we all have.

The test ride strikes again! I came from an R1100S, which is a fine machine in its own right. However the refinement that is represented by the R1200R, not to speak of the riding position, handling, super ABS braking system, etc. all conspired to win me over.

Welcome aboard. The test ride is just the start, you'll like it more every time you get a chance to go for a ride.

It really IS an addictive bike. I find myself riding now in weather I'd never ride my other bikes in.. (this AM - 39F and fog.. off to work on 2 wheels.. grinning like a fool the whole way.. with a sore back which feels better when riding..)

It's especially nice since I finished the valve adjustment for 12k miles - and it got even smoother (it is just about as smooth as my K75S was at 3,000-5,500 RPM.. which is the model for smooth/buzz free..)

Have a new front tire on order - not bad, almost 12k miles on the original, so I'm going with another Conti.. still round, still holds air, but there is some cupping on it so new will set me up for the summer rides.

Geez I don't even have it yet and the R12R still emptied my wallet.
I ordered up side cases and a tank bag today...yikes!
I'm in really deep me thinks.

Thanks! Step number one is getting it home so I can try and stay out of the dealer and away from the dreaded accessory catalog.
Heck if I'm out riding I can't be spending money no?

When you are out riding you'll meet up with someone who has a doodad from a website etc. etc. etc.
