Hi All,
How hard is it to install the Acra exhaust?.......is it 1 hr do it yourself or is it better left to the proffessionals?.....
Thx...

Re: Acrapovic exhaust install
I haven't done the Acra but I did have my whole system off to get the header coated. If your just replacing the can it's 2 bolts and 5 minutes. If you pull the whole thing it's those 2 bolts and 6 more, plus the sensors in the pipe. I got my whole system dropped in less than 15 minutes and I was being way to careful. Getting it back on didn't take much longer but it did require the right touch to get the cat in the bracket and pipes onto the head and around the motor. Pretty easy overall.

thanx......i'll be doing the slip on only.....i was just worried of how hard it is to sepparate the can from the whole system and then squeeze the new one on.....it seems like it's pressure fitted....one pipe goes inside another.....

Re: Acrapovic exhaust install
That's exactly right. There is a band clamp that goes around the pipe 16mm I think, and a torx bolt that holds the can to the passenger foot peg. Loosen the clamp, remove the torx bolt and wiggle the can off. Reverse those steps to install the new one. You'll be done before the condensation forms on your beer bottle.

Re: Acrapovic exhaust install
thank you for the replies.......i think this will be my 1st mod to the bike.......suspension is next.....i think i'll go with ohlins....lot's of people are saying nice things about them:-).......looks like on a scale of 1-10 the exhaust is 1-1 1/2.....how about the suspension?.....should it be left to the professionals?

Re: Akrapovic exhaust install
I installed Ohlins on my R11R but let the dealer install them on my R12R. I was just concerned about getting the front shock off without stripping the telelever, which on some of the newer bikes is really loctited on. I know a few people who had problems with that phase of the installation (even with a heat gun) but reported that otherwise it was easy.

Re: Acrapovic exhaust install
I installed my HyperPro's without any problem.. of course I did have the US importer in my garage with me - but he mostly observed. The bolts weren't a problem as long as they were heated up (telelever and paralever fastening points.) On a difficulty scale of 1-10 probably about a 5.. The tank has to be moved back about 3", but not removed. To move the tank requires taking off the plastic side pieces on the bike, but not a big deal. You do need a good set of Torx drivers - but since everything on the bike is Torx might as well buy them now.
To heat the bolts - several ways would work:
- Heat gun - what I used. Takes some patience for the bolt to get hot enough
- Large soldering iron. Probably should have tried this since I have a few monster ones kicking around that my father had used centuries ago.. hold the hot iron to the head of the bolt and let the heat work it's way down the bolt.
- Propane torch - will work, BTDT but have to be careful not to scorch the paint surrounding the bolt.
The other fasteners were no problem.
I did use blue (medium strength) Loctite on all fasteners when I replaced them and paint-marked them so if any loosened I could see it easily. None have loosened.
Total time - about 2 hours taking my time and a bunch of photos (which I seem to have lost somewhere..)

Re: Acrapovic exhaust install
Does anyone here use the Akrapovic without the baffles inside?
I had one on my RT and found that the resonance/frequency really disturbed my ears.
Driving on the motorway was almost unbearable & i thought my eardrums were going to burst.
But as soon as i reinserted the baffles, it was fine (obviously).
The strange thing is - a friend rides a GS without the baffles (akrapovic) and it does not disturb me at all.
I thought the RT/GS/R all used the same engine & setup, so the DB's from the exhaust should be identical. Am i wrong???
Because of the above, i am hesitant about putting an Akrapovic on my bike....
