Can someone who has upgraded their bulbs on the Rockster tell me how much wattage you can run on the high beam side with out getting into a melt down situation? Looking at the Haynes manual it appears that only the low beam bulb goes thru the relay. The high runs straight from the switch. Please correct me if this is an error. Dont want to cause a problem by putting in a bulb that burns a wire or a lense.
Thanks

I guess what I want to know is can I run a 100 watt H1 bulb on the high beam side for extended periods without burning something up.

depends on your budget........piaa do a nice 80W blue white H1 or you can go HID the 50W HID is intense...about 400% brighter .......very very very bright........great for those murky nights

Not concerned about cost as much as the small diameter hi beam bulb lead wire (can it handle 9 amps) Also will the headlite housing handle the extra heat of increased wattage for extended periods of burn time.

cool in that case the HID is more the way to go, the HID system uses less power than conventional bulbs, the up side is that it doesn't generate as much heat as a higher wattage bulb
I found the slim ballast fits nicely alongside the RH side of the battery carrier

Zax, So have you run the H.I.D. in the Rockster's small right side housing with no ill effects on the housing and wiring? Do you run it off the stock hi beam switch or do you run a seperate switch? I have seen bits and pieces on the H.I.D. but not real familiar with it. I know it requires a ballast does it also need a relay? Witch product are you using.
Thanks,
Doug

Not sure if they're exactly the same headlights (I think they are), but I've had 100w
high beam bulbs since day one on both of my R1150GS's. The '01 went 124K
without a problem. The '04 is now at 70-something thousand and counting.
Burned out one bulb in each bike. Stock low beams were never touched.
No wiring changes, relays, etc were ever added. Just put in the 100w bulb.
I'm putting a Rockster together right now. I'll be putting a 100w in it as well.

Firstly thanx

pretty happy with the color
I'm using a twin 50W HID system, & yes no heat problems, no extra wiring required

& the ballast kit doesn't need relay's
very popular conversion on the GS's

being as they're the same headlight's
