My beautiful new seat came from Sargent today. Though it was cold and windy, I couldn't help but get on for a few turns. I daresay it was a great improvement in comfort, if only for a short ride. Problem is, I have now gone from being able to get just the ball of my feet on the ground to now really being just at the tips of my toes. I appear as a freakish, helmeted ballerina dancer with a motorcycle interfering with her dance. Not pretty. If you see me out there, you have been warned.

The jury is still out as to whether I will decide to keep this beautiful piece of workmanship or not. I suppose it will be okay when riding distance. The stop and go of the city will be a pain though.

One idea is to keep the seat and only put it on for longer rides.

What most people don't realize is that aftermarket seats are made wider as a means to improve comfort. That being said, it spreads your legs further appart negating vertical reach.

Don't give up just yet.....there are many ways to get your set, at least to bring you where you were before. People have lowered the seats by reducing the height of the front rubber bumpers.......

May I suggest that you pm DSKYZD or Patrick, as he still lurks around, or even post for help as to what others have done.

I have not pulled the trigger on a Sargent yet but have talked to them about the seat height issue. They show their standard seat as .85 inches (I think) higher than the standard stock seat.

I believe they have an option to remove some material in the front, to narrow it and make the 'straddle width' Mr. Mania referred to less. This makes getting the feet down easier. Question is, is it enough to make it work for you?

I actually raised the bumpers by shimming the mount with washers to make the front of the seat taller. I think Pat sawed off part of the bumpers to make the top part flat. One might gain 1/2 and inch or so doing that.

The height of the Sargent seat I got is about an inch higher than the low seat I got with the bike. It is wider, particularly in the back. I talked with them about trimming it down, but they certainly won't offer any guarantees. I saw the idea of trimming down the stoppers for the seat and may try that. I think my next purchase is going to be the thick boots that have been suggested.

I do have to say though..... it is a beautiful thing. And while I have not been able to get it out for a long ride, it certainly feels more comfortable that the stock low seat.

I may just deflate the tires and see what that does for me.

Give it some time. I am only 5'7" and I do tip toe with my Seargent but feel quiet comfortable now. I figure I spend more time with my feet up then down on the ground anyway.

I will give it some time before I make my decision.

Say, has anyone heard of a type of clamp or something that is attached and provides some type of pre-load? I was talking with a guy who owns a Harley today and he mentioned something about that?
