Hi,
I find myself in a situation where I would like to take weekend trips and want to have my 1150R but also want my truck so I can pull a boat. Storage space is limited for me and I need something that I can deal with by myself.
I was wondering if anyone thinks this gizmo is a bad idea and if so, why.
Thanks.

How about this:

It folds out of the way if storage space is an issue.

You say you want to take a boat, so I'm picturing a trailer boat? But then I see the motorcycle caddy, so it must be a smaller boat, strapped to the roof?
IMHO, I think the motorcycle caddy is an ok idea, but it will wear out the rear tire without the fun of riding it. Plus, all of the drivetrain wear too.
Why not buy a small utility trailer, which will give you more room for carrying more junk!

I can't see how you'd tow a boat AND use the caddy... unless you mounted the caddy on the back of the boat. Recipe for disaster, IMHO.
If it's a lightweight boat/trailer, and your truck can handle a Class IV receiver and a very high tongue weight, you might consider this rack, which has a receiver in its rear end so it can also tow a light load in addition to carrying the bike.

I use a similar rack, made by JoeHauler, which does not have the ability to tow a trailer.

I'm sorry, let me clarify: I want to drive the truck and motorcycle to a location that has a boat/trailer; so no I don't need to tow them together at the same time.
The thing I like about the caddy is that it appears that I can hook it on to my receiver hitch and ride the bike's front tire right up on to it and it will hold it in place long enough for me to get off the bike and secure it with the straps. I think with an actual trailer I would need to get a second person to either hold the bike in place or fasten the straps. Plus this caddy takes up no room in my garage thats already packed completely full.
I do realize that there would be some additional wear on the rear tire but the distance I would typically use this thing would be under 100 miles per trip.
Thanks

This little baby I borrowed from a friend to haul my bike to Arkansas a while back for the Fall Bash.

It was easy for me to load it and unload it by myself, and it stores standing up. Its very light weight but carried the bike great.
The downside is that it is kind of expensive. I think about $1600 for this single bike version.
If you're interested I can find out the name of it and where he got it.
