Looking for some feedback, just ordered the Kisan Headlamp Modulator for my R1200R. From what I read it is a step in the right direction as far as alerting/warning on coming traffic etc.

What are your views/opinions on the headlamp modulator? Some swear by it and others think they are a bit of overkill, and a pain for oncoming traffic, or traffic you are following, including the group of MC's you are riding with.

So weigh in on your opinions.

If it gets you noticed, to hell with being annoying. It may save your life.

I put on the Kisan modulator and immediately noticed that people really look at you hard now, unsure whether I am a cop or not. A lot of cars will flash back at me also, so I know I am being seen. I still would not ever trust cage drivers anyway, but it sure helps.

Another interesting thing we have noticed in group rides; cars pull off the road on the shoulders thinking we are police too!


Since you are doing the Kisan on the front, remember to add the Hyper-Lites on the rear. Cars will stop much further back

When you order the modulator, be certain that they understand you need the "Z" option module to keep the canbus happy.

Settles that, its a go. And yes, I have the Hyperlites two rows of eight being install at the same time.

I'd suggest you read: http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t ... ight=kisan - in it's entirety. When you order the modulator - make absolutely certain you order it with the "Z" suffix - which is the model that is compatible with the CANBUS.

Now to add further confusion to what should be a relative easy response from KISAN. After several repeated inquires about which KISAN modulator fits the R1200R, I recieved a the following response as to which appliation fits:

P115W-A6 with "Z" option. The new 2-part 6-pin connector design is a lot
easier to install without any space constraints. The load resistor of the
"Z" option does get hot, so care should be taken on mounting the unit.

What they suggested will probably work - but you'll have to find someplace to tie the modulator off to.

This is a new version of the A6 that has a thinner connector that goes between the plug to the headlight shell and the plug in the shell. On the original A6 version - the modulator itself went there - and the wiring then interferred with the charcoal canister (as some of our other forum members found out.)

The actual modulator is now on a pig-tail from that connector. As they noted - the resistor they're using WILL get hot - so it has to be placed somewhere that it won't touch anything. I personally found that easier to do with the A2 series - by mounting the modulator inside the headlight shell. That way I know it's in a fixed position, and know what is around it - and nothing in there should be moving around.

I've discussed this with Andy (their tech support, and I suspect engineer).. and he's going with the A6 application at the moment. Luckily if it doesn't work out for you - they're really good at replacing things.
