What is the amperage capacity of the stock accessory plug on a 2004 R1150R. I have a, 12 VOLT : 12AMP mini air compressor and I was wondering if it can handle that much draw. I've searched through the BMW manual but cannot find information on the accessory plug.

15 amps comes through third fuse from left side of bike, which also provides juice to the clock.

The power socket and the clock are on the same 15A fuse, the 3rd one from the left side. Surprisingly, and in spite of that, the wires going to the power socket are thin and do not appear capable of handling 12 Amps. More like only half that for a sustained draw. I made my quesstimation by comparing the power socket wires to those that power the 60W (5 Amp) headlite, which are larger.

To power your hungry air compressor you should install your own 12V female plug with heavy wires to the starter solenoid's big copper nut top terminal. You should also add a circuit breaker or 20A fuse in that circuit too.

Thanks a million for your replies. It is, as I thought it was........ those wires going to the accessory sure look flimsy! I'm glad I did not find the 15AMP fuse information in the repair manual before I spoke with you. I could have done some damage.

Actually you will be quite surprised at the ampacity of copper wire.....AWG 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 are common in automotive applications. What the circuit is fused for is another story.....

Since your bike is an 04 you should have the pos & neg terminals on the left side, you could get an alligator clamp plug adapter and hook them directly to those terminals. If they can handle jumping the bike they should handle the mini compressor.
