I'm about to install Wilber shorter shocks to lower the '04 R 1150 R. The parts include a shortened side stand. I'km checking about the availability of a shortened center stand? Has anyone performed this to their R? If so, how did it work out for you?

Just wondering...The shorter side stand sorta makes sence..But I don't see why you would need a shorter center stand.

The wheel would just sit a little higher off the ground when on the center stand..that's all..IMO.

Or am I missing something here?

The center stand would hit the ground too far back for it to be lifted up without great strength. Far too much for a person needing a shorter bike usually...unless it were Pat.

I know of someone who had a welder shorten the center stand for that reason - too hard to get the bike up on it.

Ok...I can see now that it's also a leverage thing.

The center stand can be shortened by a good welder/fabricator, but he/she must pay attention to warping and properly fitting the stand to the bike. The shop I take my bike to has a long relationship with a professional fabrication shop that does the work for about $200. It is best to take it to someone that can do the work while having the bike handy for proper fitting. If you want the info for the guy here in SLC, UT, drop me a line and I'll send you the info.

I think that leaving the center stand the way it is may be a problem because as you all know the mechanical leverage that you use to lift the bike into the center stand is significant. If the center stand is to be left at the same lenght I think that you may have some muscle issues rolling the bike on the center stand due to additional distance the bike has to travel after being lowered.....

As some of the guys and gals mentioned, you should be able to have the center stand shortened by a good welder.

The Wilber shocks are installed and the riding position is much better with significant improvement in control while stopped.
The side stand kit worked well and the center stand is still being fabricated . Should be completed soon.
Overall, the lowering kit has been a great success.
