i know there were some MPG threads prior... just want to relate that i filled up last night after the gas lamp came on on my way back from work. premium gas @$3+ per gallon. cost me $17+ to fill up!

point is... this more or less the cost of filling my honda civic on 87

i have 2k+ miles on it thus far and gets about 40 MPG on average. the computer never got above 45. the mileage actually got worst after the 600 mile service believe it or not.

i am not complaining since it is still much better than the VFR (max 32MPG) i had. but it is certainly much worse than the my prior vulcan (55MPG all the time). one of my requirements for bikes has always been 200 mile range. and the R just squeaks by.

don't get me wrong, i think the MPG is not too bad overall. even from reading MPG threads, i know i am on the low end of MPG for this bike. i just think that the need for premium is killing the economy.

i commute on bike when ever i can. i also tend to 'take the long way' when i commute. it is funny because when i had my VFR (great bike btw), it would actually cost me more on gas than driving since it gets same or slightly worse MPG than my civic

ok rant off.

on a side note, does any one have pics of the R with CB 20" shield? i currently have a CB 16" i am looking to trade/sell. i may have to go for a 20 but, i would like to take a look at pics if possible.

Welcome to the gang over here. Your MPG will improve greatly after you get over 3000 miles. It seems to be a magic point as the engine gets run in. Enjoy he fun on this machine; it gets better, and better, and better. Especially with the gas prices over three bucks.


After you check my thread on the windscreens shown above, if you need some more angles, shoot me a pm and I will post some more. I actually need to take some photos of a couple of new farkles anyway! (Touratech handguard extension and Verholen stainless steel cylinder head protectors- very cool looking addition!).

The CB 20 is properly proportioned for the bike and looks good, as well as being very functional for me.

I guess I didn't buy my RR for fuel mileage.. In fact I didn't buy any of my bikes because they get good gas mileage. I also have a '07 Mini Cooper, which gets about 30 mpg. But it's in the shop getting some warranty work done (which I'm not happy about, to say the least).

It cost me $81 to fill up my '04 Chevy Duramax Diesel pick-up this week.. but what's a man to do (I normally use it primarily for hauling and towing).

Yeah I've seen $17.00 to fill mine up too-never thought I'd see the day!! But then who'd of thought I'd spend over $150.00 to fill up my Silverado and bass boat. My grandfather used to call it "the cost of high living"

Hang on to your hats, with the competition for energy from the emerging industrial states, China and India, we are likely to be on the road to European gas prices. I would not doubt $4+ this summer.

We have no energy polcy as a nation. The last president to even give energy a passing thought was Carter. In all fairness I guess I can say the Bush boys did give energy a thought, but it was more like "how can we keep the cash flowing to my pals?"Now we send cash to the middle east in tanker loads so they can fund whatever crazyness their fringe elements can think up. (Rant off)

I have 3400 miles on my R12R, it has been getting 40+ miles per gallon around town (ave speed 30mph) and 50 on the slab (ave speed 70mph).
I like that!

I can't say that I notice when prices go up. I pull in, swipe a card, fill the tank, toss the reciept, and get back to driving. Like milk, bread, and scotch, I have no interest in the price of gas. I need it, they sell it, done deal. If it ever comes down to gas or food, I'll trade the RR in for a Kawasaki 250R and call it a day.

And IMHO - the best thing that could be done to encourage mass transit and more respect for motorcycles in the US would be $5/gallon gas. I don't necessarily see it being a bad thing.

Actually, we do have an energy policy courtesy the idiots we elect to congress who listen to the wacko environmental types who would rather we not drill in ANWR, off California or Florida, which would depress the oil prices a bunch. The policy is to not depend on our own reserves.

It cracks me up to read about people in the States moaning about fuel prices. As if 4 bucks a gallon is going to be a catastrophe or something!

Here in Canada, where the lifestyle is pretty much similar, we are paying at least $1.05 per litre for regular. Fuel for my bike (and car) is at least 1.12 per litre.

That's $4.24 per US gallon. Probably sounds outrageous to many...

But life goes on. The roads are 16 - 20 lanes wide in places and jammed with cars and trucks. People still have two or more vehicles per household. Many still commute huge distances for work.

The noticable difference is that there are plenty of smaller imports and people keep their cars longer. There are plenty of 10-15 year old cars on the road. That way the fuel prices and insurance don't sting as much.

Would you like a glimpse of the prices of the future? Visit Canada-any of the bigger cities will do. Take in the $8 a pack cigarettes, beer and spirit prices, consumer goods prices and sales taxes at 14%. Oh and don't forget a 6% tax on services, like the dentist, barber, lawyer, contractors etc.

I was delighted to pay only 3 bucks a gallon for fuel on my bike the last time I was in the States. Bought some beer for $4.50 for a six pack of big cans! Same thing would have been at least $10.00 here.

That's how a country with a huge debt gets out of the hole. Something to think about...

Don't even get me started on Dutch gas prices....

Yeah I guess something like $2,25 a litre of ron 98 premium unleaded(witch you need to keep all the 109 horsies awake).

Strange thing is our goverment in the past always said the dollar is rising so the gas prices are rising with them but now the dollar is sinking the gas is still getting more expensive (mostly with more and more silly taxes).

I still think I should enjoy high powered two wheelers(don't let the gixxer boys read this ) for as long as I can because the future with electricaly driven vehicles is looking pretty boring to me.

Slow, Hope the stock shield works for you. I have a 16" dark smoke that I use for a summer shild and also the 20" lite smoked Cee Bailey's. Both look great on the bike. The 20" really works great on the highway. I get about 40 pmg average and am ok with that since I ride the snot out of it. If I stick to the interstate I can get 50 + mpg. I once got 288 miles on a tank fully loaded 2 up.
