O2 Sensor Removal, How much drama?

Post by Bruce_Almighty »

Good Morning All,

I have a need to remove the catbox from my bike. I almost started to do so awhile back, but waved off when I saw the O2 sensor waiting harmlessly up front. Any experiences worth reporting? FWIW, I do have a manual, etc. Just wanted to ask BEFORE I do something bad (read "bad" as EXPENSIVE)

Thanks.
Bruce

I did this last week. Drop the cat carefully and the wires on the O2 sensor are long enough to allow the unit to ALmost reach the floor. The O2 sensor is a bear to get off on real tight plus many hot cold cycles. I just put a wrench on it and supported the cat on the center stand and tapped the wrench with a BFHammer. It then had a few turns of the O2 swensor and then spun the cat. I don't think you can just twist the O2 without harming the wires, but the cat can spin. Reassembly is the opposite.

I went the whole hog - took off the tank and disconnected the Lambda sensor from the loom.

(mainly because I only had a ring spanner that was the right size.....)

I squirted mine with WD40, left it while I had a cuppa & it popped straight out. I appreciate your nervousness (I'm always scared of potentially expensive stuff too!) but this was very very easy.

FWIW,

The idea is to replace the stock cat box with another stock cat box that doesn't have two machine screw holes in the output flange. (No disrespect to the previous owner intended) Any way, thanks for all the replies.
