Rear Tire Mileage (Metzler Z6)

I just wanted to post the mileage I got out of my rear Z6. Although there were no signs of cord showing, the tire was fairly squared off. The rear lasted 9k miles. I generally keep the rear at 40 psi, riding solo. I'm no slow poke, nor am I some knee dragging, thrill seeking rider :D

The front tire will be replaced at the same time as the rear, but it could easily last another 4k miles.

I just passed 18,000 miles on my Z6s, but then again my riding is 99% commuting.

14,000 on mine. No complaints with them but I decided to go back to 880's.

I'll be replacing my rear Z6 in the next couple of weeks with about 15,000 miles on it. I measure about 3mm of tread (2mm is the min safe depth according to BMW) with the wear bars only faintly visible but it is difficult to sure you are getting an accurate measure of depth because of the tread design. The tire is getting pretty squared off and shows signs of cupping as well, but at 15k miles, I can't complain. The front measures 4+mm and shows no signs of cupping, so I'll wait a bit on that one.

Overall, no complaints about the handling or longevity of the ME Z6s.

Glad to hear of the longevity of the Z6 since I just put one on the rear after getting only 7160 miles from the Pirelli Strada it replaces. To be fair, I might have run the Strada another 1000 miles, but it was showing a little over 2mm on the treadwear indicators, and I was prepping the bike for a trip to N. GA, so I swapped it. The Strad on the front still has another 3-4K left on it.

Many at I-BMW.com claim 4 to 6K life on the Z6. Now those are mostly on K1200RS bikes that weigh a lot more than the Roadster and the KRS has the Roadster by 40 plus HP. They also run the tread right off of them in spirited riding. Myself, I am ready to change my Z6 tires on my K1200RS at 11K. It has been a good tire for us.

Got 8,000 on my M6's - mostly 2 lane, back country roads & coastline - avoid riding the slab as often as possible. last ride from Santa Rosa to Ukiah and back - 156 miles - on the freeway the trip is about 90 miles. these tires are absolutly superb in their handling. I had only 1 complaint with the M6 and that was the bald patch down the middle - on more than one occasion hit some dirt/sand on a curve and the rear end would slide over a couple inches - that'll keep you aware. The Conti's stick like velcro and have a very smooth turn in.

I too have found the lack of center tread very un-nerving. Was up on Breckenridge Mountain Rd. out of Kernville last week in a very heavy fog/mist. Not good. Am getting good mileage but cupping as well so will replace the m6's with maybe the old Bridgestone BattleAx's that used to be the standard tire. 8)

Jee-bus Christmas, guys! I'm good for about 6k miles on a rear. That's all I got from a Z6, and that's also all I got from Bridgestone BT56R's and BT020, Pilot Roads, Z6's, Pirelli Stradas, and I don't know what else. The most recent rear was an Avon Distanzia that got me 7k hard miles. The best mileage I ever got from a rear was a Metzeler ME880, that got me 9k miles. I keep air pressure at 38-40 lbs., depending on load, and since 99.999% of my riding is solo, it's not like I'm loading the bike down or anything.

My latest attempt at trying to match you guys is a Maxxis SuperMaxx. I had one on the front for over 11k miles and it wasn't worn out when I replaced it with the matching set of Distanzia's. It's still sitting in my garage, and will go back on the front when the Avon wears out. Awesome tires, the bike handled like greased lightning with the front mounted (and the Me880 rear). And with over 1,000 miles in the two weeks I've had the Maxxis rear on, I have no complaints about the rear. In fact, the bike handled wonderfully last weekend in the Arkansas mountains at the mini-bash.

I'm with priapismic! I hate all you high mileage guys! :P (just kidding)

I used Z6s and never got more than 7K out of set. Never got more out of any other brand either. I don't know how you do it.

And BTW, 36/42 on pressure, mostly mountain riding, with some slab runs mixed in on trips. And local DOT engineers have told me our stone in the asphalt mix is harder. We get less on the cage tires around here also.

I think it probably has something to do with the tic in my right wrist!

Vann, I don't know how you get so few miles, but in the case of that other guy, I have one thing to say: He IS priapismic!

Everyone keeps rubbing it in! Heck, I couldn't even sneak out of work an hour early last Friday, much less take off two days to go to Ozark!

Oh well, maybe next year!
