My name is Vito, i'm 30 years old and live Switzerland where i ride a black 2001 R1150R since a half year now.

In the comments he said he can get about 100km/h (62Mph) topspeed...

Pretty fastt with only havin' a few rollers from inline skates on the body...i wouldn't risk to do that as i at least know how it feels when it push the breaks on my Q...then my bike just bits the concret...but this guy...i don't know....

Nice bike. I ride the exact same bike, 1 year newer. I'm flying it into Munich in 5 weeks and heading south into Italy with it, but will be coming back north into Switzerland in the springtime. I would love to hit those passes in your pictures above. Absolutely gorgeous! If you're interested in meeting up and doing a day run or two, let me know.

The glaciers appear to be melting from how I remember them 40 years ago. I suppose this is an effect of global warming observable in my own lifetime...

@Samiam: 1liter (0.264 U.S. Gallons) unleaded 95 octane is currently at 1.72 swiss francs (1.48 US$).

Unleaded 98 octane (that's the juice i prefer to give my Q) is currently at about 1.76 swiss francs (1.51 US$) per liter.

Gas is still much cheaper in the U.S....

Looks unfortunately pretty different from what's left now...


Same for the Aletsch glacier. The biggest and longest glacier in the alps.

The Aletsch glacier is 23km (14.3 miles) long and in some areas the ice is more than 900m (2952 ft) thick!

Now look at those pics.



The left picture has been taken in the year 1979. The picture in the center in the year 1991 and the right one in the year 2002...further comments not needed

Thanks for the photographs and your posts. From the looks of those glaciers, I need to get to Switzerland sooner rather than later. I've been planning to visit the area around the Jungfrau, Eiger and Monch and then make my way toward toward the Dolomites some time but had a small setback last April when I crashed my R1150R.

So now I am looking at an R1150GS.

If you'd ever be interested in a visit to Colorful Colorado and a bike swap, let me know. The bike swap concept is one I've heard about from the Horizons Unlimited crowd, (http://www.horizonsunlimited.com) and think it would work well. Basically, if you come to Colorado, you can ride my motorcycle. When I come to Switzerland, I can ride yours. I can guarantee you some majestic mountains, great small towns and some tips on good places to visit.

This bike swap idea would work with you, too, DJ !!! I'd love to get down unda' !!
