Shortning Rockster bars?

Is it possible to lop off about 1"-1 1/4" of each end of the handlebars to narrow them down a bit? That is, without complicating my life too much.

It would be nice if you could...That would make lane-splitting a bit easier.

Do not get me wrong ... but those bars are wide for a reason.
I have touched one or two bumpers with the heads where the bars have gone clean over the bonnet. Luckily no permanent damage for the cars and the drivers were not too upset. The bike has not suffered too as it has head-guards and it has always been at walking pace.
If you are so badly hell bent on splitting lanes and you think the bike is too wide - you have the wrong bike. IMHO it works well in city like London with quite bad traffic. Sure enough F800 or K1200 will be better, but will not be R!!!
If you just want to do a cosmetic change - be my guest and do whatever makes you happy.
