Does anybody know if the Touring shield will fit on the Sport shield (not the flyscreen) brackets? I have a sport shield and would like to go to a larger screen for winter riding. Also can you buy just the shield and do they come in a darkor smoke tint?

Yes, if your using stock BMW brackets on the sports shield and want to exchange the windshield the touring windshield will fit perfect I'm not sure if the touring windshield comes in smoked.

Ok, senility is setting in, I admit, but which is the Sports shield & which is the touring?
Is someone able to post a picture - or two ?
Thanks

lombo is correct. I have both, and the mounts are the same.
Look in the for sale section here and also on eBay. I've seen windshields listed w/o the hardware.

You should look into the Cee Bailey they come in tinted. Cheaper then BMW and a wider varioty of sizes, and they mount to the sport hardware.

I would appreciate someone describing, or even better, illustrating, which screen is which - Sports v Touring,

Sport Shield
Touring Shield
Both of these use the exact same mounting apparatus..4 connection points with the rear ones up under the triple tree using those "impossible to access" 6mm hex screws.

You sir, are a gent.
I've got neither of those - not the "flyscreen" either.
It's best described as a bigger version of the flyscreen & yes, it's BMW not aftermarket

Those are the three BMW options though, small medium or large.
This is a better picture of the Sport shield:

hirsty, that one came later. That's not the same as the one in my first pic up there. The new one you show has a better mounting set-up and probably is more effective at putting the wind up and over.

That's the one that I have now have on my 1150R, having replaced my flyscreen.
Thanks,

I went down in the gravel about a month ago and bent the brackets on my flyscree. I was trying to remove the brackets this weekend in an attempt to straighten them as much as possible. I encountered the "Impossible to access 6mm bolts". Managed to get one free but the other is still hanging on. Any ideas on how to get at these?
thanks,
Brady

You need a long ball end hex wrench. otherwise it is next to impossible to get one side off.

If you use a ball end hex wrench (e.g. Bondhus) held by locking pliers (e.g., Vise Grip or Facom) you can get sufficient torque to loosen and tighten those hard-to-reach bolts. You might want to put a towel or something like that on your tank to protect it in case you slip and drop your tools.

I have a set of cheap ball-end allen keys that are longer than the garden variety. These work great on many hard to reach bolts.
To tighten/loosen those lower w/s mounting bolts I slide a box end wrench over the end of the allen key to use as a cheater bar.

Run down to Sears or your favorite tool store and grab one of these and a longish 3/8" extension. These tools make those "ITA" 6mm bolts easy to get to.

Hey, I resemble that remark. Well, when I was much younger.

I made the access to the bolts easier by replacing them with the same size in a regular hex-head bolt. Easier to reach and turn and less cursing!
