Bar Backs?

Post by hirschg »

I thinking of buying a set of bar backs for my R. Looking at the
moto-tecniques. Two sizes available both have 1'' rise however different set backs. What seems to be the setback most riders perfer 5/8'' or
1 1/4''?
Thanks ..........Jerry

Bar Backs

The best thing to do is to sit on your bike and assume what you think is a comfortable position. Have someone measure how much back/up your hands are from normal and then look for bar backs that give you that position.

Another option, and the one I most preferred on my last R1150R was the Touring Wellness bars from Wunderlich. When these are mounted, they look stock. The bar backs restrict the use of some tank bags and other things which I did not like. I have Verholen's on my R1200R and they make it impossible to use a tank bag. I will be switching to a Touring Wellness bar when I get time.

I use the Moto-Techniques barbacks in 1 and 1/4 inch setback, and am very pleased with the resulting rise in riding position. Makes for a much more comfortable day at the end of 500+ miles.

danstl is absolutely correct.

I found that the best ones for me ware the one from:
http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com/form ... 2%2000%2D1 With just a little cables and wires tweaking you will have the best riding position. And the Touring Wellness bars from Wunderlich will make your bike a real tourer. :D :D :D :D :D :D
With the setup like that, the Harley guys will be jealous.
At least my brother is jealous. Anybody wants to buy a V-Rod with a very little mileage
Good Luck.

Here's something you can do yourself: sit on the bike, hands on the grips. Now, lift your hands off of the grips, make a fist, then rest your knuckles back on the grips. Obviously you can't ride like that, but that will give you an estimation of how much rise you'll get from bar-backs. Your back will be a little straighter, your shoulders a bit higher, there will be slightly less pressure on your wrists. That's about the improvement you can expect from bar-backs. If you think that will be more comfortable for you, go for it. If not, keep looking for different bars.

barbacks off

I installed the moto techniques and rode with them for about a year. I then removed them and preferred the ride without. You need to try them for awhile to make the decsion though.

I've had the mototechniques for nearly 5 years now and 40,000 miles and I love them. I have the 1 1/4.

Wouldn't ride without them.

Did you have any problem with the length of the cables and wires using the 1 1/4''

I've had Verholen's since '01. Very happy and no problem with the cables. They fit.

Jerry

I clipped a couple of the zip ties and pulled a little extra slack and then re-tied the cables with no problems. The workmanship on the mototechniques is on par with anything I have seen out there and is much less expensive. I paid about $40 for mine 5 yrs ago.
