Wow, that's loud. This engine sounds just OK - it has a bunch of drone and just seems to produce noise. I'm on the fence about putting the muffler back on.

It i super simple though: one 6mm hex bolt and one 15mm bolt for the clamp, and off it comes.

I forgot to measure the size of the pipe. Currently I don't have a tip on there and I'd like to get one. What size is the piping? It looks like about 1 3/4".

Also, have people noticed the rear wheel getting more dirty after this? It would seem that all the exhaust blows onto the wheel now with the outlet being right there.

I removed my muffler a couple of months ago. i got a 1 3/4" exhaust extension at the auto part store that slightly curved out away from the rear tire.
I didn't hink the exhaust was really that much louder, although i never did run it straight out of the cat. converter.
Did you notice any difference in the handling with the decreased weight?

Ah, so my eyes were right on! I'll go look for some 1 3/4" tips, or maybe even a 2" tip with some set screws, and then use the factory curved heat shield.
As for different handling - no. Feels the same to me.

Noise is a perception by the owner, actually the majority of the exhaust noise is muffled by the Catalytic Converter, the muffler at almost 10 pounds is just to make it whisper quiet.

The cat extension will make it look good and will provide an un-impided view of that georgeous rear wheel. That is the best deal that you can get for $3 to $4. Stay with the 1 3/4" pipe, the 2" might come loose and fall off.

Give it a change and enjoy the mellow sound when you get on the gas....

Haha, I'm not worried about the noise. I just don't think it sounds that "good". The engine just makes noise, not a delicously audible tune.

Yes, 1 3/4" is the correct size. Get an exhaust tip that is turned slightly, and aim it out more than down and your wheel won't get too dirty from the exhaust.

Yes, 1 3/4" is the correct size. Get an exhaust tip that is turned slightly, and aim it out more than down and your wheel won't get too dirty from the exhaust.

I'd assume once moving the wheel doesn't get any of the exhaust dirt on it - only when stopped.

None of the Advanced autos in my immediate part of NOVA stocked a 1 3/4" curved exhaust tip. I had to order mine online.

I think the wheel will pickup more dirt if a straight tip or no tip is used.

Well you're right - they have one that is generic and fits up to 2 1/4" and uses set screws.

Did you order from Advance online? Or some other website?

I'm using a 2" tip on mine and use a spacer/sleeve to make it fit.

I'm thinking of going even bigger...like this pic shows.

btw...I've tryed half a dozen different size and length tips and they caused half a dozen different sounds.

I found that shorted/bigger sounds best...but you will never get a great sound out of a boxer..Nothing like a Guzzi or Ducati....Bummer!

I removed mine from my Rockster and installed a resonator from Hedmann Headers ($20)

Sounds great and you can use a full size RT left bag on your R1150R or GS

The set screws should be drilled and screwed into the end of the cat-converter.

and used part number 28-2551. I ordered two the last time and did lose one (fell off somewhere on the road before I 'drilled' the set screws.

Well..... I put the muffler back on today. Polished it while it was off and it looks great.

For some reason I like the look of the muffler.

I just didn't like the sound with the muffler removed. I may try the resonated tip though.
