Wow, I tried to post a picture and found out just how computer illiterate I am. Anyway, below is a picture of my rock in "sport touring" mode.

I have the same bike and love the looks of it. I still have my zebra stripes on the tank though...

Look'n good! :D

Great photo! A bud of mine piled up my Concours in 1999 about 1/4 mile east of there. Photo is probably still at the store at Deal's Gap, if it's still open. He's taking a bow next to the bike in the pic.

Nice bike.
I rode past that sign a couple weeks ago, on my Rockster.
It's great motorcycling country. Did you stay on the BRP, or did you venture off the beaten path?

On this trip (to Florida) I rode down 129/219 to get to FLorida. On the way back I took the BRP. It WAS OFF the beaten path. No traffic on both days with weather just like the picture. Does it get better than that? Here's the farkles:

Rockster touring windscreen
Touring packs (BMW)
Cabela's waterproof duffel and Helen Two WHeels straps
Lowered Pegs
Wired tank bag (Bluetooth, stereo autocomm, etc)
Motolights Halogen caliper lights,
Sargent touring Saddle

That is the OEM windshield. I was specifically told never to remove it.

It is what it is Rice. Unfortunately, he has re-located, but the guy who used to work on my bike is known by most as the best guy in the US. He told me not to fiddle with it.

It looks easy enough to remove with the bolts in front but if Phil said don't remove it, I don't.

rbert;

I actually hate those stripes more than death and I'm having the orange panels painted flat black this winter. I got the bike for $10000: brand new with touring cases, tank bag and regular R bars installed. Soon, it will be the only color a BMW should be, black with black accents...

I beg to differ.

That rockster windshield pops right off. The screws that go through the plastic are just rubber compression nuts...that expand when you tighten the screws. You can take off the windshield and leave the mounts off of the bike.

I have also taken off and put on the mounts about 5 times.

The bike is a LOT quieter without it. (For me)

Very nice OU but I am, after all, old school. Black with black with some black accents....

+1

I take mine off and on all the time. Takes about 30 seconds with a cordless drill/screwdriver.

The only reason I can think of that he may have told you not to remove it is that he was thinking you would remove the mounting brackets as well as the shield. If you did that, you would need the stock shorter screws that hold the headlight assembly on. The screws that came with my touring shield kit were longer than the stock ones. If you just remove the shield itself from the mounting brackets, you just take out the 4 small hex head screws (5mm) that hold the plastic shield to the brakets as mentioned above. Try it. I much prefer riding without the shield. I put it on if it looks like rain or sometimes in the colder months.
