Marysville for lunch.

Today Mother Nature forgot that it was still Winter and gave us a beautiful Spring day a week early. (Winter here finishes at the end of this month)

Three of us decided to make the most of it and do a ride up to Marysville for lunch.

There was Steve (Boxerboy) on his R100RS , Anne on her new Guzzi and myself on my R1150R.

This first pic is Anne's Breva and my Roadster outside Steve's house all ready to hit the road.

Image

I had the map in my tailbag just in case we get lost.

Image

We had been riding for about an hour when we came across our first roadkill...a wombat right on the middle of the road..and still fresh.

Steve and I thought we would do the right thing and move it off the road just in case another rider was to hit it.

Image

Before we knew it we were at Marysville...This is the main street..The leaf-less trees are a bit of a give-away that it's still Winter here.

Image

We had lunch at the local bakery and chose the outside seating.

Image

Anne had something healthy while Steve had a meat pie and snot-block (vanilla slice)..and I had a meat pie and custard tart...and coke.. :)

That's either a very big meat pie or a very small custard tart.

Image

Just a quick pic showing off my Boxer Cup shirt....cheers!

Image

While eating lunch the sounds of Spring was all around us..First a black bird with yellow eyes came hopping by.

Image

Then came a black and white magpie.

Image

Above us were lots of colorful Rosella's...this one was bright red.

Image

The bright flowers and bee's also thought that Spring was here.

Image

After lunch we took a short ride up to Stevenson's falls...a local waterfall..we had to park our bikes and do a 15 minute walk through the bush.

Image

This is the walking track...We could hear the waterfall in the distance.

Image

Getting close now.

Image

There she is.

Image

It was so warm ( 25C / 77F ) today I felt like jumping in the water to cool off...but didn't.

Image

Here we are now back on the road heading for Reafton..I rode ahead and took a couple of pics as Anne and Steve came past.

Image

Image

Seeing these signs always brings a smile to a motorcyclist's face.

Image

I'm back on my bike and catching up to Anne.

Image

We came to this T intersection where we should turn right and Steve said let's check out the resevoir...so we did.

Image

This is up on the dam wall looking back to where we came.

Image

Check out that amazing sky.

Image

This is looking out over one of Melbourne's water supplies.

Image

We stopped for fuel before heading off home.

Image

Here's one last pic of Anne on our way home.

Image

Oh yeah...Remember that wombat that we moved off the center of the road...This is where he ended up...He's a big bugger isn't he.

DJ,
Thanks for bringing us along on this ride. Looks like the weather, company, birds, and food were all great. What is the Black Dot program?

Here, Snot Block is a medical condition. I'll have yours though.

Wombats scare me.

The Blackspot program...

Image

Essentially, in traffic areas deemed as dangerous, funding is available to make the area safer, via better road design, eg intersections, blind corners etc...
They make the roads safer for the user. On this stretch of road, the surface is excellent, it's very well signposted with speed suggestion signs and every corner has a constant radius. None suddenly tighten up at all.
It's a local racetrack, maintained by the government  :D

Blackspots can be nominated by anybody via this website.

You guys are so cool. Black Spots and Wombats. I sure hope you washed your hands for lunch after hanging that wombat on the fence. Poor little bugger. Do you have wombat pie?

Thanks for the report. Love the closeups and ride details.

Nice shirt. :)

Nice ride.

But, in my part of the world when you can ride and sit outside in the sunshine and have lunch, it doesn't qualify as winter...

Thanks for the report.
In the picture of the falls, there is something center left....it almost appears as a bald eagle sitting on a tree stand. What is it?
Are there wombat recipes?

Thanks guys...I took some video while riding through the Black Spur on the way to Marysville...It is just hand held so it's a bit wobbly.

About 30 seconds into it you can see Boxerboy standing on the side of the road (left side) and he took this pic of me riding one handed.

Image

Near the end of the video at about the 7.20 mark you can see how easy my bike does power wheelies..

Click here for the vid.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSn8ytth8k4 ..sorry that the quality is crap.

That's a light that lights up the water wall at night...and that's when all the possums come out.

As for wombat pie..or wombat burgers...That's what they might be serving at the local pub tonight...It's just across the road from where he got splattered.

I'm sure they'll be laughin' about..."Did you see that wombat on the rail".

The poor wombat must have been on his way home after a big night at the pub...He should have crossed at the lights..This is the pub with the red railings.

Great ride in beautiful scenery! The video was great too -- nice (one-handed?) wheelie! 8)

Don't know if I could ever get used to seeing cars coming at me on that side of the roadway -- it's just not right!

Poor wombat... Break out the barby! :D
