hello all,
i have a question about the bulb(s) that backlight the clock...
it looks like the bottom of my clock isnt illuminated as brightly as the top. it's like the clock is cut in half right in the middle (in terms of illumination from top to bottom). is there 2 bulbs in there and the bottom one is burnt out? or is there just one bulb and "thats how it is" ?
thanks guys!

The clock has a light?
Mine has never been illuminated (bought the bike used) so I assumed there was no light on that instrument.
I did just replace the right turn indicator light on the instrument panel. I tried disassembling the whole panel before I realized that I can just pop off the little lense and pull out the rubber housing. I had to pull the old bulb out carefully with needle-nose pliers and pushed the new bulb in with an eraser tip pencil.

The clock has one bulb on the backside....not sure about the type tho...
I was behind the back cover just this week after my high beam indicator blew after 2+ years.
For the life of me, I could not get the bulbs out from the front...not enough slack in the leads.

I took the back cover off and loosened a patented BMW way-too-tight wire tie and now I can easily replace bulbs from the front.
So I replaced them all with LEDs, and now I won't have to bother for ~15years....
I think all the instruments are going to get red or blue LEDs this winter.....

I bought the T6.5base #24LED $4.99ea from here....
http://superlumination.com/74.htm
They're about 1/4 way down on the page. They are almost exactly the same dimension as the OE bulb, with a square top. I bought all Super White....which sort of washes out the turn signals and low fuel bezels, but otherwise they look great.
They are super bright, the instant on/off is cool to behold, and I don't think I'll ever leave my turn signals on again!
I've had 'em for a week now....
On thing tho...if I were to do it again, (and I just might

) I think I would get the slightly smaller #74 bulb in the appropriate bezel colors. I think the 74 would fit the rubber holder easier & more securely....

What a timely post. I have just fitted new led bulbs to the dash of my r1150r.
I used 4 of these, two for the speedo and two for the rev counter

And one of these for the clock,

All these bulbs are direct replacements.
Hope this helps,
Hank.
