Ride to South Alabama Wilderness

This was a most UN-eventful ride down south to visit my Pops again. He's now 83 years old and getting a little more 'rickety' each year. This year...recently....he's had a bout with his diabetes. He doesn't watch what he eats well enough and half the time can't get the little machine to cooperate to check his sugar level. A couple weeks ago his sugar went down to 43 during the night and he almost didn't wake up. A short visit to the ER and he was back on track.

Long story short. I went down and he took me up to his senior center for lunch after which we went out to visit this old 89 year old friend of his. This old guy has been in this house for 46 years. No AC. He hangs his clothes on ropes inside when it is rainy weather. He has 33 acres of 20 year old pine trees which he will harvest next year. This old guy was one of the nicest old farts I've ever met, spry as a forty year old and word is, probably the richest fellow in the county. And shows no signs of slowing down. The old tractor with the flat tire is over 50 years old and runs better than my bike.
What a treat is was to visit this guys home/farm. Enjoy it!

I liked that slideshow, Phil. The photo where he hooks his thumbs around his overalls and just rests his arms that way, reminds me of my grandfather. But I don't remember his overalls ever being that new looking.

No a.c.? How about phone or television?

Thanks again.

Thanks Phil..Great pictures of the old farts..donkey's and dogs.. :D

Nice job with the slide show...Tell your Dad to watch his sugars..Does he have one of those gizmo's to test himself?

So...That old tractor runs better than your bike... :D...You must be needing a tune up then..

I watched it twice.
If there ever was a definition of 'takin it easy' that is it...
