Still grinning - this bike is magic, acceleration seems to be never ending and handling superb, I could not ask for more. Went to the "Doobie" Rally in Port St Johns three weeks ago - nice ride 250 km's with plenty of twistie's along the way - not such a nice ride back though in the rain & freezing cold - not my idea of fun unless I have to. Anyway lets see if I can get this photo attachment sory right [/img][/url]

What also caught my eye is that license plate is HUGE. I think it is the largest I've seen. Is it the same size as the ones that are on cars there?

Granite grey is definitely the fastest color.

Yes - i see what you mean about the plate - it is partially an optical illusion it looks quite a bit bigger in the photo than it actually is but "Yes" it is still big but at the same time the smallest legal we are allowed here.

I am a few days away from buying the R1200R in Granite Grey. What is the best alternative for storage? I like the clean lines of the bike and not interested in adding too much stuff that will take away from the classic look.

Hi JPW welcome to the R1200R site - Ways of storing Im afraid I have no idea as here we can ride all year round so no need for storage . I agree wth you re attaching bits and pieces, all I have done is the standard BMW tappet cover guards at this stage but I am looking at fitting a better much louder hooter and will post some pics once I have found and fitted one.

Dunno about "alternatives"..

If you're a fan of tank bags - the BMW one will fit perfectly and holds a lot of stuff (I just bought a used one off a chap - waiting for it to be delivered.) If you have the BMW GPS mount - this may cause a problem with the GPS mounting - I'll find out next week. Smaller bags are available from vendors such as RKA in the US. I'm using their 7L Shiloh Road one as my "daily" tank bag - used for daily use. Trip use I'll probably go back to the BMW bag.

There is also a tail-pod available from National Cycle in the US (ZTechnic division..) Looks like a nice solution to me, I may end up getting one.

And the BMW hard bags are hard to beat for function and fit. They make the bike look a tiny bit obese from the rear - but they also provide some leg protection if you happen to the "T-boned" by a car. I leave mine on all the time since my full face helmet fits in them fine, as does my Aerostitch Roadcrafter if I scrunch it up enough. Nice to have all my riding gear safe and out of sight if I get off the bike to wander around somewhere.

Oops JPW Sorry I thought you were talking about storing the bike (eg) through winter - did not realise you were referring to bags / cases etc.
