R1200R Decal Removal

In the past I have always removed decals fom frame work. hair dryer+WD40+00000 pad or credit card has worked well.
Call me a puss, but pointing a hot hair dryer at a tank of gas just seems dum soooooooooooooooooo any ideas???

Make sure the gas tank is as full as you can get it.
I don't think blowing up will be a problem anyway.
Let us know first thing if it is though.

Not a problem with the hair dryer and the decals. Took mine off the day I bought my R back in Jan. Used my fingernail to get a corner lose and then pulled off each letter very easily. No need to get crazy with the heat and don't hold it in one spot for a long time. Just keep the dryer about 4-5 inches from the tank surface and continue to wave it back and forth.

I just peeled them off my granite gray R with my fingernails. No need for any heating at all. Came right off.

This would be rather difficult with the black/white-pin stripe bikes.. since the lettering (and pinstripes) are under the clearcoat.

When I was at the Nationals I noticed a few people taking a hard look at my bike. I think with the bags and the Parabellum they were trying to figure out what it was.
Being a type that really enjoys interaction with 'experts' I figured
Why not help them out. So I removed just the last 'R' from the decal. They came off easy (in one piece) after a ride in the 95 degree heat.
The idea worked just right, as the first 'expert' I encountered did two trips around the bike and then came over and asked me if it was a R1200R.
Mission accomplished!

Removing OEM decals devalues the bike to the experienced buyer because of thoughts of replaced panels after a slide.

You would love my /5, the only thing totally stock is the front fender. Everything else either has a 'wrong' hole in it, chrome has been powdercoated, wrong tank, fairing and misc engine parts. Anything that was in the way got cut off, yet I'm constantly being offered more for it than similar bikes (same vintage) are selling for.

Decals on tank came off w/ finger nail..mostly peeled off.
Glue residue removed with mineral spirits.
