I've just taken posession of a new Remus Y pipe and Can.

On trying to make sense of the German instructions, I think it says that I now need some end thingy and a heatshield when I use the panniers

Any comments?

Remus recommend that there is a piece fitted on the back of the end-can to help push the hot gases straight out horizontally (mine already had it on there).

It's possible, but surely unlikely IMO, that exhaust gases could melt the nearside plastic pannier if the can is pointing up at the normal angle towards the cut-out section - the deflector pushes out to the back rather than up. No doubt there'll be a picture of a melted pannier out there somewhere!

I saw something about this on the Wunderlich website, which may or may not still be there. If you are stuck, I can post a photo of mine.

I have a melted left pannier.

I think it happened when I had a Remus Y-piece and the OE can fitted (instead of the Remus Can).

it actually melted the BACK face of the pannier, not the "side", obviously the aerodynamics of that area push the hot air onto the pannier after it's left the can. I reckon the OE can itself was trapping heat (because it's restrictive) in a way that the Remus can wouldn't (because it's not restrictive), and thus the exhaust gases were hotter than normal.

Normally the Catalyser box traps most of the heat so the OE full system won't melt the pannier.

Presumably full Remus system? (Cat and can).

I think the issues only occur when you mix OE and Aftermarket items.

I have the Remus Y pipe and carbon fiber can and so far no heat problems with the left bag. The can fits fairly close to the bag, but the inside of the bag doesen't seem to get overly hot. I haven't had the system on for very long, but have done one fairly long ride with no melting. I will keep an eye on it though.

I have the Remus Y-pipe and aluminum can and the BMW panniers. I don't ride with panniers on a lot but I did a couple trips that lasted two or three hours. No melting as far as I can see.

Thanks for all the comments. I think I'll fit it and give it a try. My thoughts are similar to Rice's that the gas flow should be a lot faster and leave the case behind - time will tell.

Hirsty if you have a photo easily available a quick look at the fitting would be nice Ta.

Apologies - mine looks to be "built-in" to the end-can, rather than an additional part as I may have lead you to think.

Yep! Thats what mine looks like.

I notice the middle bit is missing - How dreadful
