As in the previous thread I rode up to lake george for bike week after the ride back which became cool/cold, I said to myself.....Self I think I need a bike with a fairing and some comfort i.e. fjr-1300 or triumph st, I would like to know my bi-wheelin' bi-pedals from the 3rd stone.....What sport tourer would be on your wish list, hypothetically of course. 'Cause I know you guys would never trade your R's in........or would you?

someday when I either grow up or win the lottery, or both, I would love to have an RT.

I prefer naked.

But, to stay warm I rely on Gerbings (and granted, the temps out here never get too radical). I will be crossing the Sierras first thing in the morning en route to Vegas, then Flagstaff. The mountains can get a bit chilly.

But if I had to have a fairing, the RT sure does look promising.

I will not change my BMW for sure for another bike. Anyway, if I will be in your place, I will go and rent these bikes for a week each, then drive with them as much as I like before making my final decision.

This is the logical beginning to finding if you would be happy with your new bike. I would like to try the K1200GT. That is one reason to go to THE RALLY.

If I did:

2004 GT. With a low Corbin seat and barbacks.

I don't like the new GT as much as the 03-05 models.



But, I got a kid that needs more schoolin', and I love my R.

Daydream...abort....zzzt..

Test ride a K1200S...and check out the new all black ones...mmmmmmmm!..

If this were 1977, I would just add a fairing to my R. It is already the best sport/touring bike out there. To bad all those companies making fairings 30 years ago have gone by the wayside. These days we have to settle for a touring screen.

You can always put on the Aeroflow half-fairing touring screen. It will get you 70% of the way there

I really enjoy riding the "R" (and will keep it) but I do think an ST1300 is in my future. Den

I have the "tall" Aeroflow screen with the tank wings and while it does not look as good as an RT it provides excellent protection...

I've been looking at the R1200ST. It has a fairing and adjustable windshield. First out in 2005. I did a lengthy ride two weekends ago on my R. After the final day - a nine hour ride, I felt pretty wind beaten...I was using a touring screen too.

Buy a Goldwing, and you will not feel any air.

I just saw the new Moto Guzzi Norge at the local "European Twin" dealership... Oh my. Absolutely gorgeous and fit like the proverbial handware! Those Italians DO know how to style a bike (the detailing of the rear hub, e.g., is a study in industrial art all by itself). Tentatively planning the USA 4 Corners Tour (again) for spring 2008, and I've been giving some thought to a bit more protection than the R provides. Clearly I'm going to have to stay away from my dealer until he sells the Norge (because there's no way I'm EVER selling the R, and the budget's way thin for niching my garage).

I'm warning you... don't look at this bike in the flesh.

Sport Tourer, sir?

I like both the Honda Blackbird and Triumph Sprint ST (but no shaft though) and also the R1200RT (still too big for me) in the dark metallic greys.

A suitably modded Approved Used K1200S it it then, as DJ said, in the beautiful new black paint. There's also a gorgeous black aftermarket end-can (Remus? Akraprovich?) available now to replace the ridiculous stock item & perhaps a double-bubble screen & some risers for the clip-ons too.

I too have a kid in school & planning permission for an extension we need - but can't afford to build - but it will be mine one day ...

I had an R1100RS and an R11500RS both great bikes but the riding in south Florida is straight and flat, not what those bikes were built for. Now I have a '04 R1150R and I'm very happy.
