have been riding on Pilot Roads...........have about 8,000 miles on them and am getting ready for another set. Read an article on Continental Road Attacks which gave them a great review. Comments, experiences with Pilot Roads vs. Metzler Z6, vs. Road Attacks

I've heard that the new Conti's are pretty good...but the new Road Pilot 2's should be available very soon.. http://www.r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=91988#91988 ..they might be worth concidering.

I have had all three.I'm using the Conti Road Attack now and even though I love the tread pattern (funky looks),I think I prefer the feel and mileage of Metzelers.Hard to go wrong with any of these three.

Z6's have successfully been fitted to a lot of BMW's.
To me on the physics of the cut places them almost bald in the middle which must reduce their wet weather ability and increase their dry weather ability.

Bridgestone BT020's for a longer life (miles) as the rubber is hard, the same as Michelin Pilot Roads.

You have to ask yourself miles.. or grip... compromise, or all out

One poll suggested Metzler M3's gave the best grip with the longest life,
one guy told me he got 11000 kms with a Hayabusa 1300

Hmmm? All non-USA replies so far. VERY INTERESTING! Well, I'm gonna mess that up of course.

I'm in the same boat right now with low tread Pilot Roads. I've got a trip coming up tomorrow of about 500 miles up to VA Beach, VA then back on Sunday. That'll give me roughly 12,000 miles on these babies. I'm watching them closely and must get some new rubber before the Wisconsin (MOA Rally) trip.

The PIlot Roads don't seem to have given me that MUCH more mileage over the previous MEZ6 tires I ran. Plus, these Pilot Roads wear really weird on the front and they sing to me in the curves. And the Z6s wear off in the middle REAL fast, then you can't tell how bad they are until the thread comes through. Several small issues, for sure, but enough to make me want something different this time.

Maybe I'll try the Road Attacks or possibly those new tires DJ mentioned above, once they are available...if that's soon enough..or if this thread reveals something else...We'll see. Keep talking. Haven't heard from anyone in China today....or Alabama.

I switched from Metzeler Z4 to Bridgestone BT020 on BMW dealers advice after I got only 4000 miles from them. Original tyres got 4000miles according to a previous owners notes.
Rear BT020 is well worn at ~5000 miles but front is still looking pretty healthy. Not noticed any grip problems with Bridgestones but I have an irrational preference for Metzelers- probably trying the Z6 next time.

I first had the OEM Dunlops, got about 8500 miles out of them, but not too grippy. Went to the Conti Raod Attacks. Instant love affair. Stick like glue, look great, price was right. It wore off quick though. Only got 4.5k out of them before the cords were showing. I put 100 miles a day on my bike just commuting and I need a little better mileage than that, don't have the time to change them every 3 months. Waiting on the Diablo Stradas from SWmototire right now.

I'm put Metzeler ME 880 Marathon, touring tires on in April. Went with these over Z6's due to the lack of twisties and curves in IL. One of the guys at the dealership I go to uses them too. He got 12K out of rear once and swears by them.

So far they stick well and are great in rain. Found this out in Wisconsin in May.

The down side: They ride a little harder and make more noise than the Z6's.

Pilot Road 2's are already in many countries and coming to the US in Sept or Oct. There supposed to be a big improvement over the original Pilot Road which I have had great success with. I'm very interested to see what they will do.

They 'are' great..and worth waiting for..IMO

Mine have been fantastic...They have a slightly different profile than the old one's..they seem a little taller and roll from one side to the other with ease.

I've had a few panic stops..both dry and wet and they held on perfectly.

I've tried most of 'em in recent years. Conti Road-Attacks get my vote - although I was also very taken with Avon Azaro's, & I may well try their replacements, the Storm

The front Pilot Road has been the most consistent wearing tire I have had on the R. No cupping issues like I have had on other tires. I thought that the Metzlers felt a little weird(spongy) on hte rear. I have never had the Road Attacks, but I will probably get the Pilot Road 2 the next time I buy tires.

Pirelli Diablo Strada ... feel perfectly on par with the Rockster's OEM Metz M-1

never mind the OEM are hypersport/road-sports and Stradas are Sports-Touring

I reckon it must be down to tyre profile as they let you lean and feel very stable. Slimy and wet road is not an issue at all.

Have not tried them on diesel spills, oil slicks and ice yet

I put on a set of Conti Road Attacks a few weeks ago. Went on my first ever road trip with them, rain, cold, hot etc.; I am happy with them. I decided against the Metzler Z6's due to comment here and other places regarding tread wear indicators. Expressed this concern to dealer & he showed me where the wear indicators are (not obvious, but they're there). Already had the Conti's (much lower $) and am not disappointed. FWIW, front one is made in Korea, rear one in Germany.
