Ikea Sheepskin

Post by jfbarron »

I was wandering around the gigantic Ikea store in the west end of Toronto yesterday. Came upon a pile of small sheepskins selling for 35 dollars each. These things looked about the size of my bike seat with some overhanging edges-obviously where the legs used to be.

Took it home and tried to figure out what I would need to do to attach it to the seat. Turns out that it was a piece of cake-just slide the narrow end under the seat grab strap and it fits beautifully in place!

Haven't tried it on a long distance ride yet, but it felt pretty cushy on a short ride. I even took a passenger for a spin and there were no complaints.

This has to be the cheapest sheepskin solution that I have heard of. You could buy two at that price! They are in the rug section at Ikea and I assume that Ikea is selling these things worldwide.

You can actually get one from Alaska Leather for a little cheaper than that (use the code deadsheep) and it is dyed black and has a strap sewn on. I really like my Alaska Leather sheepskin butt pad, in summer and winter.

I guess that I should have mentioned that this thing is a small, full pelt. That means that it covers both the driver and passenger seats. It is a cream colour and not black like the Alaska pads. What appears to be the equivalent (in black) sells for 100 USD according to their website.

I am sure that the Alaska pad is an excellent product. I just bought the Ikea unit on a whim to try it-so far so good.

went to our new IKEA here in Salt Lake City yesterday and they had the entire skin for $25. Nice looking jobbers too.

Plenty large enough to cover rider and pillions seats.... with some to spare.

Unfortunately, these stores are not available to a lot of us. I looked at their online site. The full pelt is $49 there, still 1/2 of Alaska's black full skin.

Here is the link for anyone interested. (Sorry you'll have to cut and paste. The url link won't post the entire line. It keeps stopping at the *)
