Help - broken wire (pics)

So I was taking my touring screen off for the summer and I noticed that there is a broken wire by my front left fork. The wire runs up to the grip but everything appears to be working (hazards, turn signal, heated grip, horn). I notice that when I pull in the clutch there is a little click, like a switch engaging. I always assumed on the right grip when you pull in the front brake and hear the click it's turning the brake light on...but why would the clutch have a switch also? Could the broken wire be for that? I'm including two pics, the first of the broken wire by the left fork and the second is where I think the wire is leading to up by the grip. Please help me figure out what's broke.

Do you have heated grips on your bike..do they still work?
You should be able to join it ok...I think it's those 'too tight cable ties' that are the cause.

I didn't catch what bike you have. Isn't there a switch in the clutch that lets you start the engine when the bike is in gear? ( clutch cut-out switch ). I can't think of anything else on the left grip except the turn signal, the horn, and the various light switches. You said the heated grips work, so that's out.

The bike is an '04 r1150r. I did test the heated grips and both do work. I didn't think about the clutch cut-out switch. I'll try starting it tomorrow morning while in gear and see if it starts.
DJ - About a year ago I installed bar risers, so you're probably right, the combination of the risers and the too-tight cable ties probably caused this.

It turns out it was the clutch cut-out switch. I had the bike in for the 18000 mile service and the dealer took care of it. They also took care of my leaking rear drive seal...a few months out of warranty! They were able to do that because I complained about the leak (weep) a few months before it went out of warranty and had it on record still.

Good news about getting the wire and leak fixed. I would think it would be OK to praise dealers or service departments by name when they do the right thing. Maybe some positive feedback with them will be a win-win situation.

Excellent news...since the MOA Rally is up in that neighborhood...and I'll be far from home.
