I used to race a '49 Manx at the Classic & Antique races at Laguna Seca in the 70's, Castor Bean oil and exposed valve springs. Your pics are hard on an old fart.

I used to race against some of these when they were new and not antiques. I rode a Gilera Saturno Corsa (a most beautiful bike) against Norton Manx, Matchless G45 and G50, and a Velocette KTT mostly agains AJS 7R. The Gilera had less performance than the British bikes but was very light (italian nickname piuma = feather) and pulled better out of real slow corners with it's straight pipe instead of megaphone. All this was in Venezuela from 1951 to 1955.

The '56 is a 150cc, the green one ('51 D1) in my avatar is a 125 (actually 123). Have just started working on a '65 D7 (175cc).

The last RD400 was also a 1976, but I went a little bit different way on this one. After this bike, it was a stock RZ350 KR replica. I left it alone!

Nice looking 2 strokes. My two street bikes in college were a RD350 & Suzuki GT380. The RD was definately faster, but the Suzuki with its 3 cylinder motor was smooth and a better street bike.

The R1150R was my next bike. Quite the jumb in technology, the motor, brakes, handeling, tires. The old bikes look great but I love the new tech.

I has a '79 RD-400 Daytona Special, then a 1982 RD350LC I sort-of "imported" from the great white north to Texas. If I could have one back, it would be the LC.....
