You meet the nicest people on a BMW. I happened upon Jim, who goes under Faylo around here, by chance on the Blue Ridge Parkway on 8/19/2011. The picture was taken in one of the Rocky Knob overlooks around MM168. I first rode by, not fully realizing the gravity of the situation, but turned around after it registered that this was a Roadster I saw. It may only be the second or third I ever saw on the road.

Jim is standing in the right on the picture by his white 2010. We had a nice chat for a while. Then, he moved on, and I settled in for my weekend in the area.

Figured I'd add a pic to this great topic as my intro post

Rented a R1200R from Dubbelju last year and rode around northern California. Working my way towards getting one of my own after I sell my current rides.

I thought about the 1200R Classic, but I didn't care for the paint scheme. The apple red is much better than I had expected. I have since added a J and M sound system and plan on some other goodies. The R1200R is a great looking bike. It doesn't need much. Since I travel on the bike I need side cases as well as a top case. I believe the R will be a great bike to travel with.
Thanks for the comments,
MM

Just got back from a 4 day run on my new bike. Had it for just over 5 weeks (I think) and just turned over 2300 miles. Wish I could keep up that kind fo riding pace all the time. Anyway, did a loop of San Francisco > Mount Hamilton > Sonora Pass > Mono Lake > Tioga Pass > Morro Bay > Monterey > back to SF, with a whole bunch of detours along the way. Bike was fabulous, even on the fire roads and gnarliest goat trails I've ever ridden - love it!

Here's a shot on the way up Sonora in the evening - I thankfully avoided the thunderstorms that were predicted.

hi all
couple of extras added for fall over protection
touratech engine rocker covers
front axle sliders .
when they go down always seems to be damage to bottom of fork legs
and edges of calipers .
now the exhaust has been changed to a laser hot cam and also a diff
slider put on . this week a sump plate has now been added .
next project is tyres with a little more winter grip.
piston .
