scottybooj,
An 8hr 58min quickest time route ride on a naked bike (NO windshield) is not my idea of fun. My DeLorme mapping program says 475 miles of the total 501 miles is on interstate highways 85, 77, and 64. That's all too easy to cruise at 80+ on the bike and get to meet new LEO's I don't wanna meet. With the bike loaded on the truck, the 70mph speed limit is a climate controlled, 29.6 MPG sweet spot, raining or not - - with up to 3 hrs between rest stops. Sipp'n another Pepsi and snacking while sitting in the truck's 3hr+comfy seat, radio play'n, sure is nice. I can also bring all my stuff: toolbox, TB manometer, show-n-tell parts (a cylinderhead & valves), VAIO laptop, travel food, cooler for sodas, fuelcans, golf sized rain umbrella and the ability to take the bike home cheaply, by myself, if something bad happens. I like those things. I don't like wasting a good Metzler Z6 by running it fast on a boring superslab while my neck muscles get lockjaw fighting the wind. Taking back roads means almost double the time meaning I'll need someone to pry my hands off the grips and cut off the gangrene caused by the stock seat when I get there.
Look for the Sandstone Gold `98 Nissan KingCab when you get there. It's me, already there, rested and ready to ride!

Planning
Looking down the road. This has entered my long term calendar. Here's some marks on the wall:
1. Final reservation confirmation and 50% deposit January 2007 to Old Clark Inn. Need committed folks to determine the need for overflow lodging arranged by Nelson versus the potential to find your own lodging.
2. Procrastinators need not worry. There are over 3000 rooms avaiulable nearby.
3. Those capable of early planning, however, will undoubtedly enjoy the advantages of the location more than late Lizzies.
4. Money. I'll plan to cover the 50% and allow subscribers to pay me asd we did for Hungry Mother (thanks to all you HMSPRR riders).
5. There's always something else.
Let's go ride some more.

Road Kill
Marlinton is the town on the Greenbrier River where US 219 and WV 55/39 meet. Near Watoga State Park, Pearl Buck's birthplace, Snowshoe Ski Resort, Cass Scenic Railroad, Green Bank Observatory, French's Diner and a host of other notable locales.
But every town in WV is located on a river...so you might be confused.

Even thought I enjoy these events inmensely as well as the company, I will have to decline on this one too...you guys are setting up in your backyards, a bit too far from my base of operations.
What ever happened to having a Bash downunder to visit with DJ, and the rest of the bandidos, like we talked on BBII...now, that would be an event....you can count me in.
If you come down to Georgia or Tenessee then we are talking....in any event, put me down for two 2x shirts.
Mike Cam, tell me how much with shipping and I'll PayPal or send you a check........

Sorry for the late sign on but count me in. I had so much fun at Hungry Mother I don't want to miss any more of that. I have a commitment back in Maryland on the 20th but will just bug out real early. I'll be working on Tom to come from Virginia Beach again.

A little off topic, but why not try meeting up as a group at the Georgia Mountain Rally next spring, too. It is usually the first weekend in May. Or do something near Chattanooga in mid to late April.
Many of us here are willing to travel a bit of a distance, but I think that the main reason for meeting up in the West Virginia area is that it was the most central location for those of us east of the Mississippi.
