Arkline & Acacia -
Thanks for the definition & examples of "entrophy". My headache is better.
I knew that...just didn't know the name for it.
Believe me, after 35 years in Big Corporate America (before I escaped!) I saw it every day...institutionalized, packaged, force-fed and liberally rewarded.
I had hoped for more here...

Cyclerob -
Last night it was "bandwidth' issues, tonight it's "appropriateness" and "pushed buttons".
Let me know now what it will be tomorrow...I need to get some sleep tonight.
There is so much more going on here than a lengthy Honda post...all stirred up in a big "crock".

So much is...

So many points... so little time... *AND* I have to watch what I say...

Hmmmmmm... Let's start here - Bones, Acacia, Arkline, et al...

Thank you very, very much for your kind compliments. I appreciate them, and I can only hope some certain other folks will read them.

CycleRob...

I also appreciate your... well... I don't know whether to call it a compliment or what. Maybe one day I will get to tell you about the oval piston "mule" engines with one rod, and maybe even about the other one that had *NO* separate rod and piston and whose cylinder bores, vertically, were hourglass shaped (i.e. the piston not only went up and down, but rocked fore and aft, too!). But not here... Nope, this is first and foremost an R-1150-R site. That, above all else, even if you don't own one.

But interestingly enough, you contradict yourself in your post above... First you champion NoRRmad post, and suggest it is the best course of action for all of us...

Only to then turn around and say this about your Vegas trip posts:
I reluctantly did not put it in the Group Ride section, where it belonged, because, seeing the invisible, I knew ahead of time almost nobody would see it there.
And left it at that, quickly changing tacks and talking about Darth's and your sig lines...

But interestingly enough, your reasoning above is EXACTLY the reason I did not put my "Trivia" bike posts, or the Honda posts, in the "Off Topic" section... Nobody ever goes to that section!!! Just take a look at the hit counts and reply numbers on threads in the "Off Topic" section if you want confirmation...

You didn't put your Vegas trip posts in the "Group Ride" section because you were concerned nobody would see it, right?

Well, exactly why is that okay for you, but not for others?

Nobody wants to post anything in "Patrick's Playhouse" because that has become nothing but a war zone for right and left wingers to duke it out endlessly about the same old, tired, belabored subjects. Any post about anything other than politics drops down the page so fast it disappears from view in less than 24 hours.

I'm afraid I have to side a bit with Darth here... Something else is going on here, and though I think I know what it is I can't say it under the current circumstances. Rob, you have come up with a myriad of ever changing possible reasons why certain things have been going on, but no concrete evidence. Maybe with your close relationship with Doug you can find out for us.

As Bones said earlier in the thread, and Dean affirmed, it is tiem for the moderators to give us some clear direction here. Should threads about filtering in traffic, squiddly police riders, cleaning goretex, Dennis Noyes MotoGP article, Ducati Supermoto, questions about riding in Canada, somebody's last ride of the season, or pics of the Baja 1000 be on the Main R1150R board or in the "Off Topic" section, or the "Great Rides" section, or where???

Is a Ducati post on the main board okay, but a Honda one is not? If so, why?

Or does all of this really have more to do with exactly "who" is doing the posting, and therefore actually different rules for different folks...

I better stop right there...

Umm... Oh my!

I clicked onto page three of this thread, 'cause I wanted to finish up the NR 500 saga. Really.

Only to find there's been some sort of train wreck over the weekend. Wow! How very unfortunate.

And how like a liberal... I see a bit of everybody's side.

Entropy increases.

Dallara,
Bones and BobFV1 have pretty much desribed my feelings and I also would also like to hear the rest of the NR-500 story!! As for the Moto-Trivia though, you have kept me up at night searching for answers long enough! :D

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been visiting this site regularly for over three years. At first, like everyone else, I visited to glean info about my RR, then hung around because of the mostly mature banter and the quality of the general info that is so freely given by Dallara and the other major posters.

I truly appreciate the "tone" of this site and I do thank Doug for what he has done to protect that, however, perhaps he should just establish a R1150R FAQ page and be done with it because to think that this site has gone over-the-top is ridiculous. All I see going on here are folks who own and/or appreciate the R1150R getting together and enjoying them. Non-BMW Motorcycle stories, Moto-trivia, and yes...even a bit of appreciative eye candy from time to time enlivens the discussion and represents what a person who appreciates the R1150R as well as other bikes is all about.

I really do enjoy this site just the way it is

I just want to hear the rest of the story, since I was riding a honda 50cc bike at the time(I was 5 years old).

Then if there need to be some new updates and changes we can hash them out.

For me, many of the questions about the 1150R have been answered at earlier times on the site. All it takes is a look into the archieved threads, or post a quick question if something new comes up. The bike always seems to run like a top, and does not require a lot of maintainence.

The most important reason I frequent the site is the interesting people from interesting places with interesting stories. I can also handle the uninteresting things, too.

So where are the comments and clarifications from our moderators and/or Doug on the subject?

Finish it in Off-Topic. If that is OK. I just gotta know. (or else I will hafta do something productive like fold laundry) :smt100

I'll be happy to...

I'll be happy to "finish it off", Biff's R...

Wherever... Be it in "Off Topic" or elsewhere... If the moderators, etc. will just tell me where, when, and how, etc.

I have been SUMMARILY instructed not to post non-R-1150-R material, period. If I choose to post non-R-1150-R material I run the risk of being "banned" permanently from this site despite paying for a "lifetime" membership.

If one of the moderators, or the site owner, gives me the "go-ahead" to finish the Honda NR-500 saga I will be happy to do so... Otherwise...

Well...

I hope you understand.

Cheers!

Hmm - I must say, I would rather learn about motorcycles that see a picture of a cooked turkey, which is the subject of one post in off-topic...

I hope we get this all sorted out, because I want to hear Dal's story...

1212 hits, 53 replies...

Maybe there is something to this.

Like I have said, if the moderators or Doug, the website owner, gives me the go ahead...

The I will happily tell the NR-500 saga as I know it and remember it...

But otherwise it is strictly R-1150-R stuff I will be posting here.

Thanks!

I usually browse most posts but somehow missed this until I saw there was some discontent being mentioned elsewhere.

Seems like a fuss about nothing to me.

[edit Having read a few more posts, sounds like it should be a fuss about nothing]

Odd. Normally boards like this are based off the users directions on what they want to see and not the owners. That way is a community and not some guys 1150R only web site.

Well, I have to admit, I have not visited this thread since page 1 and only came back when mention was made of some problems.

I really hope this is all just a simple misunderstanding and we can figure out what is going on and all get back to normal. Well, as normal as possible for this crew.

I don't see a problem with the non-R related stuff and also don't see a problem with threads being moved to appropriate sections of the board. Let's all take a breath and don't do anything drastic.

I loved it and found it very entertaining and enlightening.
Keep it up.
I am a sucker for history and really enjoyed the work put in to this thread.
(I for one am looking forward to the whole story!!)
Good stuff.
