Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
Don't forget about some kind of wall mounts for the system cases when they are off the bike.. I'd buy those.
Also, a mount for a Stebel Nautilus horn would be great. Something that mounts it under the seat on a non ABS bike where the ABS stuff would usually live. I did a very lame job of fabricating a bracket that mounts it to the mounting holes for the missing ABS.. but I'm just waiting for it to vibrate loose. Another obtion would be a mounting bracket where the stock horn was for people with ABS.

As a former customer of Johnny's I can tell you his products are top notch, and shipped promptly. Will gladly do more business with him.
You should come up with a cool logo to stamp somewhere. But maybe something other than your avatar

Great ideas! I'll take the wall mounts too, but I have ABS so would need a different horn bracket. Plenty of others have ABS so maybe two versions would work.ErikU wrote:Don't forget about some kind of wall mounts for the system cases when they are off the bike.. I'd buy those.

Couldnt you just use some bicycle hooks and just hang the bags by the handlesErikU wrote:Don't forget about some kind of wall mounts for the system cases when they are off the bike.. I'd buy those.

Because of the shape on the back side of the bags, they are a pain to deal with. They pretty much fall over or hang really funny no matter where I put them.

ROI= Return On Investment.
Unless you are independently wealthy and feeling generous, your ROI should be positive. Your labor and capitol investment (machines, rent, utilities) need to be paid off.
Valve cover protectors are sacrificial in that they get scraped/gouged/bent and the valve cover doesn't, or at least not as much. Any crash severe enough to damage the jugs will totally wipe out ANY bolt-on guard. There's still an advantage to having the cover guards. They serve as a shock cushioning bumper between the cover and the road.
In choosing what to manufacture, look for less specialization (bag rack???), wide model and year application, a real use and no competition in your price range. That's why an adjustable ParaLever arm and valve cover guards earn a higher priority. They'll both fit a lotta 1150 OilHead bikes and a lotta model years. Properly designed parts with good function, a "cool factor" and reasonable prices WILL sell !! Once the pictures and specs go up in Buy/Sell/Trade the good news will travel fast. The AdvRider guys alone will keep you busy.
If you build it . . . they will come.

Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I have something in the works as we speak
. Unfortunately I am not independantly wealthy ( I wish!!). Once I get my current project done, i'll post some pics. I am doing it mostly cuz I thought it would work well and be pretty useful for my type of riding, so if no one likes it...oh well, I'll have the only R with one, but if you guys like it, then all the better
. Pics up when its done, been working at it for a few days and its about 1/2 done. Hopefully it'll be done by the end of the week

I know you said you want to make parts for the R1150R. You also said you wanted to get rich and wanted to make at least 20 in the first run. You also stated that you mostly work in metal. The item I am thinking of would usually come in ABS but I would seriously consider this item machined out of aluminum or another metal. You would probably sell over 2,000 your first month and everyone is looking for them. I am talking about city lids for the new system cases. They say they are available overseas and are very very expensive and no one here has seen them. Like many, I am shocked that someone is not making them already.

Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
You know what I would love.
I'd like a set of latches/etc., that can be mounted on a hard-shell guitar case (electric or accoustic), that would allow you to mount the case to the system case rails. I travel quite often with my guitar, and in summer months, I'd love to just ride rather than drive.
Come to think of it, a kit like this can be used for anything.
i.e., any case for anything.
I imagine this as being two pieces, to fit the bottom area and the top latch.

A good waterproof 90 degree plug to fit in the Gearbox cover accessory socket. The BMW plug and others I have seen all stick out about 1 1/2" and the wire comes out of the end. Only problem is the price would need to be about £7.50 ($14).
I have only looked at my ABS but reading the fluid bleadin instructions on this site perhaps a reservoir cap/funnel may be useful.I think the instructions recommend buying a BMW cap and super gluing a tube into it.

A few things come to mind, in order of interest: 1) an elegant mount for a zumo; 2) light bar(s) for PIAA or similar lights; 3) simple handlebar brackets for mounting GS hand guards on an R1150R.

I bought a 90 degree plug... I think I got it at Aerostich.com, but I'm not sure. They are out there.msut01 wrote:A good waterproof 90 degree plug to fit in the Gearbox cover accessory socket. This thingy made by wunderlich is supposed to add at least some storage room... (can't be much judging its dimensions tho..)

Got the top half molded up, now just gotta get the bottom half done. It'll open like a clamshell. Once the mold is made....the fiberglass overlay is the easy part. Then I gotta figure out the best way to attach it, so that its a simple replacement for the rear seat or rear seat cover
. Hoping to get it completely designed and mounted by the time the Bash rolls around. Although....I'm not sure where the G/F is gonna sit
