Thanks much for your reply - I agree, seems rather short sided on BMW's side to paint and clear coat a part that is inevitably going to come in contact with gas - either by a malfunctioning component or just plain old gas spillage from filling up.
I've put a claim into BMW, they committed to nothing on the phone. But, I'm a bit p*ssed, I bought my bike used in June '05 from the only BMW bike dealer in South Florida, the recall came out a year earlier, and the guys at 441 Cycle didn't update the BMW ownership records (or if they did - it slipped through the system) and they never mentioned the Recall until I called saying I needed to get the bike in for service since the gas was pouring out from under the tank - the girl on the phone said - OH, BTW, you bike has been recalled for a gas leak - DUH - that's what I just said - were you not listening?
