Magnetic tank bag question.

I used to have a magnetic bag on my GS(yellow), and I suppose
because of the colour, did not notice any scratches.
As said, lift rather than trying to slide helps. Also cleaning the underside regularly helps as well.
I use a R1100RT bag (genuine) on my R. I would not use another magnetic one unless no other choice.

As far as good strap on tank bags go..IMO the new GS bag is the best..but it ain't cheap.

Just thinking..I wonder if Glad Wrap would work..the stuff you put over food to keep it fresh...thing so the magnets will grip..but should stop scratches and scuffs.

DJ if the tank was repainted the paint will still be soft and will scatch easly. I think I would wait 6mo. or so for it to hardin up befor using a tank bag.

I'm using a Marsee and most of the time a Held, without any problems in the finish.

I've been using a magnetic Wolfman tankbag for over two years...perhaps there are remnants of this use on my black tank, but they haven't stopped anyone from admiring the bike when on the road or stopped. Certainly they haven't done any more damage than my belt buckles have done on the tank (or even buttons from my jeans for that matter).

Many of you others spend a WHOLE lot more energy than do I on polishing the bike... scratches and a bit of dirt don't bother me. My bike runs very well, but it won't win any beauty contests. I check the tire pressure, the fluid levels and throttle sync religiously, but it is a semi-annual task to deal with the dirt.

GMACNEIL, I am with you! I bought my bike to ride, not to polish.
I do clean it sort of every now and then. Mainly the bugs off the screen and the tank, forks.
I do feel guilty sometimes about not keeping it clean, but going inside fixes that problem.

I am very particular with the maintenance though, tyre pressures before every ride, oil checks, aven though it doesnt use any.

Not at all..

..I'm lucky to be able to ride almost daily and also avoid dirt, mud, rain, snow and ice...it sure helps keep to your bike looking like new.

I try a give it a good going over every few weeks..sometimes months..I often get people say..wow..new bike..and I say no..it's more than 5yrs old...I'm sure they must think I spend more time cleaning than riding.

I am the same with my Mountain bikes..I think some people just like cleaning and tinkering..and my shift work gives me the time to do it..also maybe because I'm a Libra..and almost a Virgo..
