Thank goodness Arizona didn't listen to Louisiana Governor's Safety Rep James Champagne who travels the country telling safety nannies that insurance rates will decline when helmet use is mandated.

That's not an exact figure, it's been a few months, but I remember it being between 1100 and 1200--like 1148?? -- to add the roadster to the Vespa. The insurance companies know how to make money no matter what occurs. And being at the bottom of most lists, we get speared.
For years the insurance industry has pulled the strings of politicians, including the insurance commissioner (an elected official). The current commissioner, up for re-election, is the first one in decades to not be indicted, convicted and imprisoned.
In most state, after a natural disaster, residents have two years to file, but not in La. Here, because of the political power of the industry it is only one year. That has been a BIG problem for many Katrina victims, plus the arguing wheteher something was wind or flood related--the argument that it was all the same storm, held no water (pardon the pun).
Such corruption is being exposed and widely recognized now, but the power is still there.
