MIXR & ALL,

Wanted to report back on my Tensioner replace.

I've got about 14K on my 04 RR, and noticed no change when the new tensioner was installed (had the dealer put it in).

I'm prolly just over-sensitized to normal noises. In fact, I have noticed that I can hear the noise a bit more with my ear plugs in, as compared to with them out. Seems the ear plugs filter certain sounds, which has the effect of magnifying this particular noise.

This is not to say that replacing the tensioner wont help others...

And as you mentioned MIXR, no effect on performance, either with the old or new.

Anyway, life is good on a sweet bike; ride it and enjoy it!

Thanks Ed - I think that with only 14 k you won't notice the difference until the motor gets a bit older. One of the issues with the old style was the spring getting weak with age and use, and the overall design not being able to compensate. The new tensioner should stop that from happening, so you may have just done the job earlier than needed (before the real clatter started) and it won't appear at all.

I do know of some high mile 1150 engines where it's been ok (no serious noise), but have recently started listening to a lot of them and showing the owners the difference between theirs and mine, now I know what to listen for. Most just hadn't noticed the increasing noise, or just thought 'they all do that'. They don't! (or don't have to).

Cheers, Mick.

Sure Mick...

As you prolly also noticed, the new tensioner has a stronger spring than the old one (at least it was stronger than mine with about 14K on it).
